The Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) Mumbai was established as the Department of Chemical Technology on 1^st October, 1933 by the University of Mumbai, through active support of industries and philanthropists. The Institute was most popularly known as UDCT, Mumbai. Research has been an integral part of ICT since its inception and it has created over 500 first generation entrepreneurs. The UDCT grew significantly in stature and was granted autonomy under UGC regulations by the University of Mumbai and further converted in to an Institute on 26th January, 2002. Under the World Bank TEQIP programme, the Maharashtra government granted it full autonomy in June 2004. Due to the recommendations of the Government of Maharashtra and University of Mumbai, the ICT was granted Deemed University Status by the MHRD on 12th September, 2008, with all provisions of the UGC for funding and support as the state owned deemed university.

From its campuses in Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad and Dubai, BITS Pilani offers formal education and re-search programmes in Physical Sciences, Engineering, Pharmacy, Social Sciences and Management. With a view to establish itself as one of India’s top research-led universities and be amongst the leading technical universities in the world, BITS Pilani has embarked upon an aggressive plan to expand its PG and Ph.D. research programmes, while consolidating its UG programmes.

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the award of “DBT-Junior Research Fellowship” (DBT-JRF) for pursuing research in frontier areas of Biotechnology and Applied Biology. JRFs will be selected according to merit under two categories: Category I & II. Category I fellowship (Top 275 in number) are tenable in any University/Institute in India where the students can register for Ph.D. Category II students (100 in number) will be eligible to join any DBT sponsored Project and avail fellowship equivalent to NET/GATE qualifications as per DST Guidelines, subject to selection through institutional selection process. Fellowship will be co-terminus with the duration of project and institutional rules will be applicable. There will be no binding on PIs of DBT sponsored projects to select JRF/SRF for their projects from category II list. Selection in Category II will not entitle student for any fellowship from DBT-JRF programme.

Shroff S. R. Rotary Institute of Chemical Technology (SRICT) has been founded to provide the specific needs of the Chemical Industry in and around Ankleshwar.There isn’t college of chemical technology in Gujarat, and yet Gujarat has the largest concentration of thechemical industry in India, with more than 40% share of the total chemical production and exports.The Bharuch District is the chemical Hub of Gujarat, with Panoli, Ankleshwar, Valia, Jhagadia, and Dahej, an enormous Chemical Industrial Centre.

The setting up of a separate Department of Biotechnology (DBT), under the Ministry of Science and Technology in 1986 gave a new impetus to the development of the field of modern biology and biotechnology in India. In more than a decade of its existence, the department has promoted and accelerated the pace of development of biotechnology in the country. Through several R&D projects, demonstrations and creation of infrastructural facilities a clear visible impact of this field has been seen.

The National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC) has been set up by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India on 24th January 1997. The company is registered under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956 as a Company not for profit. It is wholly owned by Government of India and has an authorised share capital of Rs. 400 crores (Rupees Four Hundred Crore only).

The history of the IIT system dates back to 1946 when a committee was set up by Hon'ble Sir Jogendra Singh, Member of the Viceroy's Executive Council, Department of Education, Health and Agriculture to consider the setting up of Higher Technical Institutions for post war industrial development in India. The 22 member committee headed by Sri N.R.Sarkar, in its report, recommended the establishment of four Higher Technical Institutions in the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern regions, possibly on the lines of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, with a number of secondary institutions affiliated to it.
