The history of the IIT system dates back to 1946 when a committee was set up by Hon'ble Sir Jogendra Singh, Member of the Viceroy's Executive Council, Department of Education, Health and Agriculture to consider the setting up of Higher Technical Institutions for post war industrial development in India. The 22 member committee headed by Sri N.R.Sarkar, in its report, recommended the establishment of four Higher Technical Institutions in the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern regions, possibly on the lines of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, with a number of secondary institutions affiliated to it.

Qualifications & Experience
i)RA : PhD from recognized Institute / University in India or abroad preferably in the field of Environmental Geology / Hydrogeology / Geochemistry with at least two publication in SCI journals.
ii)Post Graduate Degree (M. Tech) in professional course [Biotechnology or Environmental Science / Engineering or related field] with GATE/ equivalent qualification.
OR.
Post Graduate Degree (M.Sc) in Science [ any suitable branch of life science] or Graduate degree in Professional course (B.Tech) in Biotechnology and GATE/NET(JRF)/ equivalent qualification and at least two years research experience at the level of JRF.
Relevant Experience
i)Preference will be given to those with experience of modeling and simulation software and computational capabilities.
ii)Routine microbiology and molecular biology laboratory works, Especially on extraction of bacterial DNA, RNA, PCR, cloning etc. and skill for bioinformatics analysis of nucleic acid will be desirable.
