    Abstract
Stem cells are cells found in most of the multi-cellular organisms. They have ability to renew themselves through mitotic cell division and differentiating into a diverse range of specialized cell types.1 Once the healthy stem cells are infused into the patient's blood stream, the cells move from the blood vessels to the center of the bones where they begin making new blood cells. Starting from the beginning, cells are the basic unit of all life. They contain DNA , which is all of the cell’s genetic material. They also have the ability to undergo cell division and replication. The harvesting of stem cells from surplus embryos is prepared for in-vitro fertilization procedures in fertility clinics.“The cord in placental mammals that joins the embryo and the placenta together, where the placenta provides nutrients to the embryo via the umbilical cord while at the same time transporting the waste material from the baby.Stem cells are self- renewing cells. The supply of these cells is maintained by stem cells, which replicate many times and then differentiate into the specialized cells that are needed. In this way, cells are continuously replenished as they die.  Stem cell application is a new field with lots of promises to offer. Stem cell research is a new field with unlimited scope. Stem cells hold the key to replacing cells lost in many diseases that are caused by loss of functioning cells. The unique capability of this cell to form various tissues under definite signals received from the body, makes this cell an of extensive research.

    ABSTRACT
To determine the effect of rhizobium inoculation and nitrogen fertilizer on performance of Green gram, Bengal gram and Groundnut. Investigations were done in pot culture experiment under natural conditions. The research material consists of Green gram, Bengal gram and Groundnut varieties with treatment of seeds and Nitrogen fertilizer at 60kg/ha for green gram and Bengal gram, 120kg/ha for Groundnut. These treatments were compared against control (no inoculation). Data were recorded on Plant Growth parameters (seed germination, nodulation index, plant height at maturity, wet weight and dry weight) and soil nitrogen levels at the end of experiment. Among all treatments plant with seed inoculation was found effective in all three legume varieties compared to soil with nitrogen fertilizer and control.

  • AN INSIGHT OF GENOMICS: MEDICAL PROSPECTIVE

    About Author:

    SSR Medical College, Mauritius

    ABSTRACT
Genomics is the study of an organism's genome and the use of the genes. It deals with the systematic use of genome information, associated with other data, to provide answers in biology, medicine, and industry.

Genomics has the potential of offering new therapeutic methods for the treatment of some diseases, as well as new diagnostic methods. Other applications are in the food and agriculture sectors. The major tools and methods related to genomics are bioinformatics, genetic analysis, measurement of gene expression, and determination of gene function.

OBJECTIVE:To estimate the given samples of DNA qualitatively and quantitatively and know its purity and concentration.

     BACKGROUND
Quantification of nucleic acids is commonly used in molecular Biology to determine the concentration of DNA and RNA present in the mixture As subsequent reaction or protocols using the nucleic acids sample of a required particular amount of optical performance. Both DNA and RNA exhibit strong absorbance of UV due to the presence of conjugated double bonds of the constant purine and pyramidine bases and these have characteristics of OD (optical density)of absorbance maximum at 260nm which is linearly related with the concentration  of the DNA in the solution up to the OD value of 2 . The spectroscopic method is used to check the purity of DNA. Proteins are the major contaminants in the nucleic acid extracts and these have the maximum absorbance at 280nm. Value less than 1.8 signifies the presence of proteins as impurities.

  • Biodegradable, Biotechnology and Biopolymers - BBB

    Abstract
Products which degrade upon disposal by the action of living organisms are called 'biodegradable products”. They can be broken down into their constituent natural elements and be absorbed by the environment. There has been a lot of progress in the production of biodegradable products from biopolymers such as starch, cellulose, lactic acid, glycolic acid etc. Biopolymers have a vast range of applications in the production of eco- friendly products such as bioplastics, biopots, biodegradable medical devices, biodegradable implants and drug delivery systems. Using biodegradable products is very important for making the environment “Green”. Advanced techniques in biotechnology have been used to produce genetically modified organisms. These genetically modified organisms are used in the production of biopolymers. Biopolymers help to produce biodegradable products in large quantities at a very low cost. Therefore focusing research in these areas will help to completely avoid the usage of non biodegradable products in future.
