The Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST) was constituted in October 2008 under the Chairmanship of distinguished scientist Prof. C.N.R. Rao, F.R.S., National Research Professor and Chairman - Science Advisory Council to Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. VGST is functioning under the aegis of Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka.

Abstract:
Chemicals are an integral part of our daily lives and are responsible for substantially improving them. Yet chemicals can also endanger our health, even our survival. This report focuses on neurotoxic substances, those chemicals that adversely affect the nervous system. Included among such substances are industrial chemicals, pesticides, therapeutic drugs, abused drugs, foods, food additives, cosmetic ingredients, and naturally occurring substances. Whether a substance causes an adverse health effect depends on many factors, including the toxicity of the substance, the extent of exposure, and an individual's age and state of health. Minimizing public health risks requires knowledge about the properties and mechanisms of action of potentially toxic substances to which humans may be exposed. The assessment includes discussion of industrial chemicals, pesticides, therapeutic drugs, substance drugs, foods, food additives, cosmetic ingredients, and such naturally occurring substances as lead and mercury. It does not include radioactive chemicals, nicotine, alcohol, biological and chemical warfare agents, microbial, plant, and animal toxins, and physical agents such as noise.

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for filling up the following posts under National Rural Health Mission, Odisha on contractual basis for a period of 11 months with monthly remuneration as noted against each and subject to renewal as per Society norms basing on the performance. Performance Incentives & other benefits are also admissible as per norms applicable and orders issued there-under from time to time for all the posts except SI. No. 07.

The Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai is the new state-of-the-art R&D satellite of the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), which also includes under its umbrella the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), the largest cancer hospital in Asia. ACTREC has the mandate to function as a national centre for treatment, research and education in cancer. TMC is an autonomous grant-in-aid institution of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India.
