Recognizing the need for further strengthening of this sector, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt, of India, established National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) as centres of Excellence for imparting higher education and carrying out cutting edge research in pharmaceutical sciences.

    The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER, Kolkata) has been created as a centre of excellence for higher education, research and development in pharmaceutical sciences.
    The Institute offers in M.S.(Pharm.) in Medicinal Chemistry, Natural Products and Pharmacoinformatics. The Institute admits students for the M.S(Pharm.) through a common entrance test conducted by NIPER, Mohali. In future the number of M.S. programs would be increased and Ph.D programs would also be started in various disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences every year.

    Dementia is defined as a loss of intellectual abilities that is severe enough to interfere with social or occupational functioning.
    Alzheimer’s disease (AD)     is most common cause of dementia. 50-70% of all cases of dementia are due to Alzheimer’s disease.
    AD is characterized by early memory deficits, followed by gradual erosion of other cognitive functions. The most severe neuropathological changes occur in the hippocampus, followed by association cortices or subcortical structures, including the amygdale and nucleus basalis of Meyhert.
