Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB) is an autonomous national institute under Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India). This futuristic innovation institute of its own kind in the country has a mission of advancing knowledge, leads and emerging technologies/processes relevant to agri-food sector towards applications and products. It aims to link them with societal benefits through catalysing/promoting entrepreneurial action around bioprocesses, bio-products, value-addition to bioproducts etc. with special reference to the agrifood sector. Currently, the four major mandated R&D areas in hand at the institute are (A) Value Addition to Primary Processing Residues/ Wastes for Edible Products; (B) Valorisation of Crop Waste for Speciality Products and Chemicals; (C) Nutritionals, nutraceuticals and upgradation of value or use of bio-products, (D) Biosynthetic technology/synthetic biology for low volume-high value products and industrial enzymes. To support and steer this mission, the institute requires following temporary research positions on stipendary / fellowship / associateship basis:

JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWS (WITH OWN FELLOWSHIP)
1. Junior Research Fellow (Catalysis Chemistry) – Multiple positions
Age limit– 28 Years
Fellowship – As per fellowship awarding agency
Qualifications: M.Sc. in Chemistry (Organic / Inorganic / Physical) from a recognized University / Institute and having their own fellowship granted by CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST/ICAR/ICMR or other funding agencies.
2. Junior Research Fellow – (Natural Product Chemistry) – Multiple positions
Age limit– 28 Years Fellowship – As per fellowship awarding agency
Qualifications: M.Sc. in Chemistry (Medicinal / Pharmaceutical / Organic / Inorganic / Physical) from a recognized University / Institute and having their own fellowship granted by CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST/ICAR/ICMR or other funding agencies.
3. Junior Research Fellow – (Biotechnology) – Multiple positions
Age limit– 28 Years
Fellowship – As per fellowship awarding agency
Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Science (Biology / Biotechnology / Biochemistry / Bioinformatics / Microbiology) from a recognized University / Institute and having their own fellowship granted by CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST/ICAR/ICMR or other funding agencies.
4. Junior Research Fellow – (Chemical / Biochemical Engineering) – Multiple positions Age limit– 28 Years
Fellowship – As per fellowship awarding agency
Qualifications: B.Tech / B.E. / M.Tech / M.E. (Biotechnology / Biochemical Engineering / Bioengineering / Chemical Engineering / Chemical Technology / Bioprocess Engineering) from a recognized University / Institute and having their own fellowship granted by CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST/ICAR/ICMR or other funding agencies.
5. Junior Research Fellow – (Chemical / Nano Sciences) – Multiple positions
Age limit– 28 Years
Fellowship – As per fellowship awarding agency
Qualifications: M. Sc. in Chemical or Life Sciences, M. Pharm. / M. S. (Pharm.) / M. Tech. in Medicinal Chemistry/Pharmaceutical Chemistry/Pharmaceutical Science from a recognized University / Institute and having their own fellowship granted by CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST/ICAR/ICMR or other funding agencies.
6. Junior Research Fellow – (Chemical Technology / Food Biotechnology) – Multiple positions
Age limit– 28 Years
Fellowship – As per fellowship awarding agency
Qualifications: M. Tech. in Chemical/Food/Biotech Engineering or M. Sc. in Biochemistry/Food Science from a recognized University/Institute and having their own fellowship granted by CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST/ICAR/ICMR or other funding agencies.

 

FELLOWSHIPS UNDER EXTERNALLY FUNDED PROJECTS AT CIAB, MOHALI
1. Junior Research Fellow (Synthetic Biology/Biosynthetic Techn ology) – One position

Project Title –  “Protein engineering and gene mining strategies for the deve lopment of thermo-acidic D-psicose  3-epimerase, useful in generating functional products”.
Funded By – Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) under ECRA scheme of DST (Govt. of India)..
Principal Investigator – Dr. Sudhir Pratap Singh, Scientist-C
Duration of the project – Three Years
Age limit – 28 Years
Fellowship – Rs. 25,000/- + HRA as per DST norms
Qualifications – (i) M. Sc. in Life sciences (Biology/Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Microbiology) from a recognized institute / university with NET / GATE / any other relevant equivalent nature of test qualified. OR (ii) M. Tech. (Biotechnology) from a recognized University / Institute.
Tenure – Initially one year, renewable for the consecutive years based on satisfactory performance but in no case beyond three years or cessation of operation and/or funding of the project by the project funding agency, whichever is earlier.
2. Junior Research Fellow (Biological Sciences) – Two positions
Project Title – “Structural and functional characterization of metagenome of extreme niches and fermented foods of high altitude region of Sikkim Himalaya”.
Funded By – IBSD, DBT (Govt. of India).
Principal Investigator – Dr. Sudhir P. Singh; Co-PI: Dr. Sudesh Kumar
Duration of the project – Two Years
Age limit – 28 Years
Fellowship – Rs. 25,000/- + HRA as per DST norms
3. Junior Research Fellow (Synthetic Biology/Biosynthetic Technology) – Two position
Project Title – “A novel approach of production of functional products from sweet sorghum”.
Funded By – Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India
Principal Investigator – Dr. Sudhir P. Singh; Co-PI - Dr. R. S. Sangwan
Duration of the project – Three Years
Age limit – 28 Years
Fellowship – Rs. 25,000/- + HRA as per DST norms
Qualifications – (i) M. Sc. in Life sciences (Biology/Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Microbiology) from a recognized university/institute with NET / GATE / any other relevant equivalent nature of test qualified. OR (ii) M. Tech. (Biotechnology) from a recognized university/institute.

Application Procedure
The interested candidates may appear for a Walk-In-Interview on 19-07-2017 along with the application form (as per format for JRF/Project Fellow) available on the website ciab.res.in. The duly filled application form must be submitted at the time of the registration from 09:00 AM to 10:30 AM on 19-07-2017. The candidates must ascertain their eligibility before applying, as ineligible candidates would not be interviewed.

Process of Engagement
The eligible applicants would be interviewed by a duly constituted committee. The committee would recommend the candidates, if found suitable, for consideration of the competent authority for engagement on purely on Fellowship/Stipendiary basis for a period of one year. The CIAB may consider (based on performance review of the candidate, should CIAB requires and the candidate intends) to extend the incumbent’s working for the second year. During the engagement period, the fellowship/scholarship may be discontinued by the institute at any time with one months’ notice or one month’s emoluments in lieu. Subject to satisfactory performance and R&D outputs, NET qualified research fellows may be allowed to continue as SRF after 2 years of Junior Research Fellowship. Provisions of registration for Ph.D exist at Universities having MoU with CIAB subject to scholar’s tangible performance, promise, academic suitability, etc.

Important
• The applications should be submitted in the prescribed format that can be downloaded from the CIAB website: ciab.res.in.
• Completed applications along with photocopies of all the relevant educational and experience certificates are to be submitted at the time of registration at Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB), Sector-81 (Knowledge City), Manauli P.O., S.A.S. Nagar, Mohali - 140306, Punjab from 09:00 AM to 10:30 AM on 19-07-2017 (guide map enclosed below).
• All the positions are based at Mohali, Punjab but some works may be assigned to be carried out at outstations also.
• Number of positions may vary.
• Relaxation of age for various categories (including woman candidates) shall be as per rules of DST and other Government of India agencies.
• If in any area no suitable candidate is found, no selection would be made in that case.
• No TA/DA etc. would be paid for attending the walk-in-interview.
• Candidates should bring their original documents for verification and one set of photocopy (for submission) of their all relevant certificates related to education, experience, publications, thesis/dissertations etc. at the time of interview.
• Candidates found eligible after scrutiny of applications post registration, shall be required to appear before a Selection Committee. Kindly note that in case there are substantial number of applicants, the Chief Executive Officer, CIAB reserves the right to devise such criteria as deemed fit to shortlist the candidates for the interview. If required, a written test may also be conducted to short-list candidates. The decision of the CEO, CIAB to conduct a written test shall be final and binding on all in this respect
