The St. John's Research Institute (SJRI) is a part of the St John's National Academy of Health Sciences, which is run by the CBCI Society for Medical Education. From its inception, St. John's has set before it an ideal of excellence in academic courses as well as service to society as a result of which it has truly become holistic both in its outlook and in its approach to the problems of community health. In 2000, the Academy decided that its commitment to excellence in research required the setting up of an Institute that was dedicated to the pursuit of research and capacity development in St. John's. Brief Description about the Project
This intervention trial focuses on bone mineral balance as an indicator of calcium flux into the bone in response to increased dietary calcium intake. By examining urinary calcium stable isotopes in children supplemented with 2 doses of calcium, this non-invasive method offers a field-friendly approach to estimate changes in bone mineral balance. The study aims to correlate urinary calcium isotope ratios with 3-day dietary calcium intake and other blood biomarkers for bone turnover, conducting longitudinal assessments across different calcium intake levels.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Carry out tasks such as dietary recalls, anthropometry, etc.
• Coordinate the recruitment of study subjects, data collection, and follow-up with study subjects.
• Interact with subjects on a weekly basis for compliance and morbidity checks.
• Channelize the study protocol with other team members to complete various study milestones.
• Report day-to-day activities to the study PI/Project manager.
• Demonstrate the ability to create and maintain databases.
• Possess proficiency in transcribing in Kannada and English, as well as performing translations.
• Be prepared to travel to community settings.
• Have basic data analysis and reporting experience (Microsoft).
• Actively participate in ongoing project work.
• Collect, process, and accurately store laboratory specimens.
• Maintain lab records, analytical procedures, and validation protocols according to standard operating procedures.
• Manage lab inventory and consumables.
• Follow written analytical procedures, assist in the development of new analytical methods, and refine existing methods.
• Perform calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments.
