The institute started in 1962 and Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru inaugurated the hospital now named “Nehru Hospital” on 7th July 1963. The Institute was originally under the Government of undivided Punjab.

    National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali, is an autonomous R&D Institute under Government of India, Department of Biotechnology. The institute is a state of the art facility in globally competitive and translatable research areas at the interface of agricultural biotechnology, food processing and nutritional sciences. NABI and Cremica Food Industries Limited have joined for a new study on food products to validate low glycemic index of these products and understand its effects. This 6-month study will jointly be undertaken by NABI & PGIMER, Chandigarh.

    NABI will need one Biochemistry/Endocrinology expert and one Technician under this project.

    All India Institute of Medical Science, Bathinda (Punjab), an autonomous Institute of National Importance is one of the new AIIMS being established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swastya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY) with the aim of correcting regional imbalance in the quality tertiary level healthcare in the country and attaining Selfsufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education of training. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare vide its letter No. Z-28016/45/2017-PMSSY-III dated 4th February 2019 has declared PGIMER, Chandigarh as the mentor Institute for operationalisation of various activities at AIIMS, Bathinda (Punjab).
