Chhattisgarh is the 10th largest state in India with an area of 135,190 sq-km. Chhattisgarh is the 16th largest state in terms of population which is approximately equal to 2,08,00,000. The native language of people of Chhattisgarh is Chhattisgarhi. Capital of Chhattisgarh is Raipur which is the center of all the trade, economy and administration. The native language is Chhattisgarhi but Hindi is more prominent here. Chhattisgarh is mainly famous for its agriculture accounting for about 80% of the work force.

In March, 2002, RCH Society, Chhattisgarh and the Regional Office (Raipur) of ActionAid India Society (AAI) executed a Memorandum of Understanding. The MoU was signed in the context of European Commission and Sector Investment Programme (SIP). The State Health Resource Centre, Chhattisgarh was founded as additional technical capacity to the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Chhattisgarh and as a state-civil-society body whereas the ActionAid's role was to coordinate civil society organisations in setting up such a body. During the following two years the initial team was put together and the institution was made able to stand on its own. Since 2004 the SHRC has been functioning as a fully autonomous institution.

Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University is Chhattisgarh's largest and oldest institution of higher education, founded in 1964, and named after the first chief minister of erstwhile Madhya Pradesh. The University has a sprawling campus in the western part of the capital of Chhattisgarh, Raipur. The campus of University is spread in 207 acres of land.
