His vision and impetus led to the creation of the Institute, conceived as a means to forge a strong research bond between academia and industry. Its research center became operational in 2007.     The Institute of Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine (inStem), is a premier research centre carrying out frontier research in the field stem cell biology. inStem has initiated a collaborative program of research with the National Centre for Biological Sciences and the National Institute for Mental Health and Neurosciences. The program aims to understand the cellular and molecular basis of mental illness with a long-term goal to develop new therapies. The program involves generation and analysis of cellular models using patient derived human induced pluripotent stem cells (HiPSCs) and its differentiated derivatives. We are looking for individuals with cell biology experience to assist in establishment and analysis of human induced pluripotent stem cell (HiPSC) lines.

The UDCT grew significantly in stature and was granted autonomy under UGC regulations by the University of Mumbai and further converted in to an Institute on 26th January, 2002.

    Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research originated as École de Médicine de Pondichérry established by the French Government in the year 1823.  This medical school was converted into Dhanvantari Medical College at the time of de facto transfer of Pondicherry to Government of India.
