The Office of Technology Transfer Office (OTT) established with the support of the National Biopharma Mission has the mandate to move innovations and discoveries from the laboratories to the marketplace for greater societal benefit. It intends to bridge the research community to the industry and start-ups through strategically evaluating, protecting and licensing its innovations. The OTT’s aim is to sustain an ecosystem where both excellent science and entrepreneurship can complement each other and thrive. The following skills and abilities are necessary requirements for working at the TTO.:
• Strong attention to detail, be able to understand the big picture and long-term goals.
• Integrity, strong business ethics and service orientation.
• Proven ability to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment with rapidly shifting priorities
• Officers in senior positions are expected to carry a larger caseload, perform their duties with minimal supervision, and act as a mentor to newer members of the TTO staff;
• Demonstrated initiative, ability to prioritize workload, follow up with diverse stakeholders, meet deadlines, and work productively both on an independent basis and as a collaborative member of a team.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Core duties
The core duties entail invention harvesting, guide inventors through invention disclosures, liaising with researchers and analyse patentability of their invention disclosures. The Incumbent would be expected to draft patent applications, conduct database searches, oversee timely prosecution of applications to grant and to maintain the currency of the internal patent database. They will also be expected to deliver talks on IP related topics to researchers and students from time to time.
Education & Experience :
• At least a Bachelor's degree in biotechnology, chemical, biomedical or other life-sciences (an advanced degree is preferred)
• At least 5 Years of experience working with in-house or outside patent counsel to manage the patenting process; Registered Patent agents will have an advantage
[Multiple years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered]
• Ability to draft and prosecute patent applications
• Experience in conducting searches of chemical and sequence databases
• Proficient with Patent docketing software, word processing and spreadsheet software.
• Demonstrated ability to use patent and other complex databases including USPTO’s PAIR / Esp@ce and other proprietary databases.
• Knowledge of Patent analytics and technology mapping desirable.
