ICMR-Vector Control Research Centre, an autonomous Institute, under the Indian Council of Medical Research, Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India intends to engage Consultant (Scientific) purely on contractual basis for a period of one year. Retired Scientists (Non-Medical) from Central / State Government / Autonomous Organizations / Public Sector Undertaking are eligible for consideration for the above position.
Post : Consultant (Scientific) - Two Posts
Eligibility & other criteria : Professionals have proven competency and success in their area of specialization, with at least 10 years of experience of post qualification experience and should possess minimum M.Sc / equivalent qualification in relevant subject in Life Sciences /Biological Sciences from a recognized University with research & development experience and published papers.
Note : PhD will be considered as 4-year experience (irrespective of duration taken complete the degree).

Retired Government employees with requisite qualification and who were at the regular pay level- 10 and above and having 10 years of experience in the required specialization.
Desirable : Candidates possessing Ph.D. in a relevant field and 8-10 years of postdoctoral experience will be preferred.
Age : Minimum 40 years and maximum of 70 years (on the last date of receipt of application) i.e., 15.03.2025.
Consolidated emoluments : Between 1,00,000 - 1,80,000/- per month.
The emoluments will be fixed based on experience, last pay drawn and post held at the time of retirement and / or as applicable and as decided by the competent authority.
Duties / Responsibilities
(1) Vector-Borne Disease Research : Conduct research and work on various vector borne diseases, including Malaria, Filariasis, Leishmaniasis and arboviral diseases transmitted by ticks and mosquitoes.
(2) Field Studies and Data Collection : Design and execute field studies to assess the prevalence, distribution and control of vector-borne diseases in relevant areas.
(3) Vector Competence and Molecular Entomology Studies : Conduct studies on the vector competence of ticks and mosquitoes for emerging arboviruses, as well as experimental evolution research to understand vector adaptation and transmission dynamics.
(4) Grant Writing and Coordination : Assist in the preparation and submission of National and International research grants, manuscripts and other scholarly publications. Provide support in the coordination of ongoing and upcoming national and international research projects.
(5) Capacity Building and Training : Develop and deliver training programs for national and international public health personnel, focusing on disease vectors and their control mechanisms.
(6) Administrative and Miscellaneous Tasks : Undertake any additional duties as assigned by the Director of ICMR-VCRC, Puducherry, within the period of the contract.
Tenure : The initial term of engagement will be for not more than one year and subsequent extension, if any, will be considered depending upon the requirement.
Place of duty : ICMR-Vector Control Research Centre, Medical Complex, Indira Nagar, Puducherry. The selected candidate should also be prepared to work anywhere in India, as per requirement.
Leave : The Consultant shall be eligible for 1.5 days leave per completed month of service on pro-rata basis and no leave shall be credited in advance. Encashment of leave will not be permitted and un-availed leave will not be carried forward to the next year in case of renewal.
TA / DA : No TA/DA shall be admissible for joining the assignment or on its completion. However, Consultants shall be allowed TA/DA for their travel inside the country in connection with the official work as per his/her entitlement at the time of retirement, in case of Government servant. For external professionals, class/mode of journey would be by economy class only as per rules. Consultant will be provided transport facilities for local official duty.
Release of fee : The monthly fee will be released to the Consultant on explicit certificate from the Head of the Division/ Director of ICMR-VCRC, on the satisfactory performance and attendance.
Tax deduction : All applicable taxes as per Government rules and regulations will be deducted at source.
