Life Sciences Recruitment in a SERB-DST funded research project at Banaras Hindu University

Banaras Hindu University is an internationally reputed temple of learning, situated in the holy city of  Varanasi. This creative and innovative university was founded by the great nationalist leader, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, in 1916, through close cooperation with great personalities like Dr Annie Besant, who viewed it as the University of India. Banaras Hindu University was established by the Parliamentary legislation-B.H.U. Act 1915. 

Applications are invited for One post of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) or Senior Research Fellow (SRF) with a fellowship as per SERB-DST norms in a SERB-DST funded research project (BHU Project Code No. P-07/1277) entitled ‘Transcriptional engineering of a fast-growing marine cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. PCC 11901 towards efficient metabolites production’, sanctioned for 3 years (2022-2025). The post is temporary and co-terminus with the project. 

Essential Qualifications : 
(i) JRF Position: The candidate should be M.Sc. in Biotechnology/Life Science/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/Microbial Biotechnology with minimum 55% marks and must have qualified NET or GATE. 
Age Limit : The upper age limit is 28 years for JRF. Age limit is relaxable for 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST/Physically Handicapped/Female candidates. All things being equal, SC/ST candidates will be preferred as per GOI rules. 
(ii) SRF Position : Possessing essential qualifications mentioned for the JRF position (above) and at least 2 years of post-Masters’ degree research/teaching experience as evidenced from published papers in standard refereed journals. 
Age limit : 32 years on the date of application, with relaxation to SC/ST/OBC candidates as per Government of India norms. 

Desirable Qualifications : The candidate should have prior hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques and they are expected to have prior experience in gene cloning and proteomics. In addition, hands- on experience with the cultivation of cyanobacteria will be preferred.
