The NIOH is the premier institute, under the aegis of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) under the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. The need for research in Occupational Health in the country was first appreciated by Indian Research Fund Association (IRFA), the forerunner of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). IRFA set up an Industrial Health Advisory Committee (IHAC) under the chairmanship of Col. Bozman in 1945.
Post : Senior Research Fellow
Applications are invited through E-mail for the following post to be filled up through personal interview (online) under the time bound research project entitled “Cataloguing metamobilome based environmental antimicrobial resistance patterns in pharmaceutical industries clusters of Gujarat” funded by ICMR at ICMR-National Institute of Occupational Health (NIOH) Ahmedabad. The posts are purely temporary, ad-hoc & on contractual basis and co-terminus with the project.
Essential Qualifications
Post Graduate Degree in i. Bioinformatics OR ii. Analytical Chemistry / Pharmaceutical Chemistry / Pharmacology & Toxicology selected through a process described through any one of the following :
A). Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests — CSIR-UGC, NET, including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE, GPAT.
B). The selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IIsc, IISER, etc.
Qualification Prescribed above with TWO YEAR RESEARCH EXPERIENCE (As per ICMR Circular No. 16/139/2014-Admn.II Dated 26/10/2023)
Desirable Qualifications
i. Able to perform experiments related to residue analysis in GC-MS and LC-MS (Applicable for other streams candidates)
ii. Able to handle and analyze Whole genome sequencing data (Applicable for Bioinformatics background candidates) Candidates having combinatorial skill sets in the above-mentioned desirable qualifications will be preferred.
Age : Not exceeding 35 yrs on the date of interview.
Consolidated Salary : Rs. 35,000 per month + 9450 (27% HRA) = 44450/-

Job Requirement / Description
I. Handling Whole genome sequencing data (Applicable for Bioinformatics background candidates)
II. Method development and analysis of samples for antimicrobials using high end analytical instruments (Applicable for other streams candidates)
III. Additional skill-sets such as molecular docking (small molecule druggable target identification, ligand-receptor interaction analysis) and microbial metagenomics data analysis is equally desirable.
IV. Data aggregation from various scholarly databases. Statistical Analysis using suitable data management and analysis platforms such as SPSS, Prism, Origin etc.
V. Plan and execute experiments as per the project time line, collate and analyze data, manuscript/report writing.
VI. Manage project related work, documents & files, logistic arrangements, etc
VII. Any other work as assigned by investigators of the project
Terms & Conditions

Selection Procedure : The shortlisted candidates will only be called for an Interview. Interveiew will be conducted through physical or through vedio conference mode or in hybrid mode. The Interview will be conducted at ICMR-National Insitute of Occupational Health, Ahmedabad with prior intimation to the candidates. Qualification & experience required are as per guidelines: experience shall be counted after acquiring the essential qualification; age limit and experience will be considered as on the date of the interview.
• Initially the appointment is for the tenure mentioned in the tables (One year) for the respective post from the date of assignment of duty and is likely to be extended for 6 months if required subject to performance evaluation by the Project Investigator.
• The short listed candidates will be intimated though e-mail only on further procedures of recruitment. The selected listed candidate will be required to produce original documents for verification at the time of joining.
• Submission of incorrect or false information during the process shall disqualify the candidature.
• Any further information may be downloaded from ICMR-N1OH website, which will be updated from time to time. Date of personal discussion / written test may be changed due to administrative reasons. Hence, candidates are advised to check website before appearing for personal discussion / written test.
• The decision of the Director/Director-in-Charge, ICMR- National Institute of Occupational Health, Ahmedabad will be final in this regard. Canvassing in any form will be considered as a disqualification.
• The engagement to the project position is purely on time bound contract basis andthe Competent Authority reserves the right to dispense with the engagement, at anytime without assigning any reasons.
• The engagement can be terminated during the tenure at any time by giving one-month notice on either side. Your engagement can be terminated forthwith or before expiry of the notice period, by making payment of a sum equivalent to one-month project position remuneration. However, you will not be permitted to surrender one- month remuneration, in lieu of the period of notice of unexpired portion thereof and you will be required to serve the full period of notice. (Note — The mandate of one- month notice from either side, as stated herein, will not be applicable in case the project is decided to be closed by the competent authority within a period of less than 30days/one month.)
• The engagement will be under the Administrative control of the ICMR-NIOH / Centre of ICMR-NIOH and will be subject to all the rules and regulations of the ICMR-NIOH / Centre of ICMR-NIOH as applicable to fixed term project positions/persons during the tenure/period of engagement.
• As per project requirement the posting will be at office/field/sitework/travel etc. at the study site; however, may be temporarily posted to other study sites in the interest of project work.
• There will not be entitlement to any other allowances such as Dearness Allowance, Transport Allowance, LTC, Bonus, etc. Also, incumbent shall not be provided any medicalfacility under CGHS / CS (MA) Rules as admissible to regular employees, and not entitled for any terminal benefits after completion of project period or otherwise.
• No travelling and/or daily allowance will be admissible either for joining the assignment or on expiry of the contract. However, while travelling in connection with the assigned work during the period of engagement, you will be entitled to draw TA/DA in accordance with your Stipend / Emoluments, but it will not be at par with the regular / permanent employees of ICMR.
• Age relaxation will be admissible as per GoI and ICMR norms. Age concession to the extent of service rendered inother ICMR research projects will also be admissible for experienced and skilled persons. • Candidates employed in Govt. Service /Semi Govt. /Autonomous Bodies of State/Central Govt. should submit a "No Objection Certificate” front their employer at the time of written test /walk-in Interview. • There will not have any claim on a regular post in ICMR-NIOH / Centre of ICMR-NIOH or in any Dept. of GOI. An undertaking to this effect before joining the project position.
