NABI requires Research Associate, Research Scientist, JRF, Project Associate

National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) is an autonomous Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. NABI aims at catalysing the transformation of the Agri-food sector in India by being a nodal organization for knowledge generation and translational science leading to value-added products based on Agri-Food biotech innovations for improved household nutritional security. Since its inception in 2010, NABI is involved in research activities for Bio-fortification, the development of designer crops for improved nutrition, providing sustainable and novel solutions for quality food and nutrition, and the development of evidence-based functional foods to counter malnutrition. 

The food and nutritional Biotechnology division at NABI requires the following research personnel purely on a temporary basis.

Research Associate (One position)
1. Project Title : “Mass spectrometry-based proteomic approaches to study the specific and non-specific protein interactions during adipogenesis.”(NABIcore)
Principle Investigator : Dr Vikas Rishi, Scientist G
Duration : The RA fellowship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 1 year only, and in exceptional cases, depending upon the progress of the research, the performance, the committee may recommend the up-gradation of RA Levels.

Essential Qualification :-
a. Candidates should have been awarded the Ph.d degree or has submitted his/her Ph.d thesis.
b. Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests-CSIR-UGC-NET, including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship), GATE and GPAT.
c. The selection process via National-level examinations conducted by central government departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER etc.
Desirable Experience : The candidate should have experience in advanced molecular biology and biochemical methods and techniques. A candidate with experience in animal cell culture protocols and nano LC-MS/MS spectrometry, confocal microscopy is desirable. Relevant research publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Emoluments : Rs. 58000/- per month plus HRA (As per DST OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26.06.2023)

Project Research Scientist-I (Non-medical)
Project Title : Unravelling the Nutraceutical Potential of Millet Polyphenols in Modulating Gut-Microbiome Liver Axis in Alleviating Hepatic Endotoxemia and Steatosis” under the Investigator Initiated Research Proposals scheme, with Sanction No. EMDR/SG/12/2024-01296. (Sanctioned by ICMR-India)(GAP-81).
Principle Investigator : Dr. Kanthi Kiran Kondepudi, Scientist-F
Duration : The appointment will be initially for one year. Further continuation or up-gradation will be on the basis of the, submission of a progress report and further assessment of the performance of candidates.

Essential Qualification :-
a. First Class Post Graduate Degree, including the integrated PG degrees. OR
b. Second Class Post Graduate Degree, including the integrated PG degrees with PhD. OR 
c. For Engineering / IT / CS – First Class Graduate Degree of Four Years.
d. Research experience of more than 1 year.
e. Candidate having qualified any National Eligibility Exams for pursing PhD will be considered for the position.
Desirable Experience :-
1. Prior experience in phytochemical extractions, HPLC, in vitro (cell culture) and in-vivo (mice) model systems in the field of obesity, type-2 diabetes or microbiology. 
2. Knowledge and working experience in the areas of metagenomics, gene expression, PCR, RT-PCR, Western Blotting, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry etc.
3. Working experience with analytical techniques such as HPLC/GC etc. 
Job Profile:This project will use phyto-chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry and work with in-vitro and in-vivo models. The selected candidate will work in a project aimed at understanding the role of millet polyphenols in mitigating diet-induced fatty liver disease; understanding the gut - gut Microbiome - Liver communication; characterization of millet polyphenols using analytical methods and functional food development.

Junior Research Fellow (JRF) (One position)
Project Title : Unravelling the molecular roles of Rice Seed-expressed bZIP (RISBZs) Transcription Factors using genome editing approach.”(GAP-66).
Principle Investigator : Dr. Prafull Salvi, Scientist-C
Duration: The appointment will be initially for one year subject to the availability of funds by the funding agency. Further up-gradation will be on the basis of the submission of a progress report and further assessment.

Essential Qualification:-
1. Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science OR Graduate/Post Graduate Degree in professional course selected through a process described through any one of the following: - 
a. Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests-CSIR-UGC-NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE 
b. The selection process through National Level examinations conducted by central government departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, ICMR, etc.
Desirable Experience:-
1. Prior experience in rice tissue culture will be preferred. 
2. Experience in gateway cloning and western blotting. 
3. Experience in CRISPR/Cas genome editing system.
Job Profile : The selected candidate will be involved in a project aimed at comprehending the significance of molecular determinants and associated pathways focusing on enhancing seed vigour and stress tolerance response for crop improvement.

Project Research Scientist-I (Non-Medical)
Project Title : “Targeting Microglia and Brain-Derived Macrophages to Reverse Compulsive Sugar Eating and Sugar Withdrawal Symptoms.” (GAP-82).
Principle Investigator : Dr Mohit Kumar, Scientist-C
Duration : The initial appointment will be one year, which may be extended to two years, subject to the project duration and performance. The position will co-terminate with the project.

Essential Qualification : First-class post-graduate (PG) degree (including integrated PG) such as M.Pharm/M.Sc/M.Tech or Equivalent (with specialization in Pharmacology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Life Sciences/ Neuroscience)
Desirable Experience :-
1. Strong knowledge of basic concepts of brain anatomy, behaviour neuroscience, immunology, molecular biology and biochemistry especially metabolic pathways.
2. Practical knowledge of general molecular biology techniques such as qPCR, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, ELISA and flow cytometry.
3. Comfortable working with experimental animals (mice).
4. Basic knowledge of statistics and bioinformatics tools for RNASeq data analysis will be a plus.

Research Associate –I (01)
Project Title : “Molecular characterization of candidate genes associated with reproductive development in Arabidopsis and Sorghum.”(GAP-76)
Principle Investigator : Dr. Rita Sharma, Scientist-E
Duration : The RA fellowship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 1 year only, and depending upon the progress of the research and the performance, the committee may recommend further extension of tenure.
Essential Qualification : PhD in any branch of life sciences or biotechnology with at least two first author peer-reviewed research publications (if degree is awaited proof for provisional degree has to be submitted)
Desirable Experience : Experience in growing plants, plant tissue culture, plant transformation, plant physiological and biochemical assays, basic molecular biology techniques. Acquaintance with the Basic Bioinformatics tool is expected.
Emoluments : Rs.58,000/-month + HRA, (As per DST OM: DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated June 26, 2023).

Essential Qualification :-
a) MSc/ M.Tech in Botany/Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Agriculture/Plant Molecular Biology/Bioinformatics or allied sciences
b) 55% total marks or equivalent score in the qualifying degree (5% relaxation in marks will be given to SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/PWD as per GOI norms)
c) In addition to the above, candidates applying for admission must qualify a national-level test for pursuing the Doctor of Philosophy program. Such tests include doctoral fellowship or admission eligibility tests conducted at the national level by recognized government agencies, such as the University Grants Commission (UGC), Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), or any other government-recognized agency.
Desirable Experience :  General plant molecular biology and plant tissue culture-related techniques, plant transformation.
Emoluments : Rs. 37000/- per month Plus HRA.

Desirable Experience : General plant molecular biology and plant tissue culture-related techniques, plant transformation..
Emoluments : The Project Associate I will be hired with the emoluments Rs. 31,000/- + 8% HRA (For NET and GATE qualified candidates) and Rs. 25,000/- +8% HRA (For Non-NET/ GATE qualified candidates)

Application Procedure & Other Conditions
1. All interested candidates may appear for Walk-In-Interview at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute located at Knowledge city, Sector-81, Mohali,Punjab- 140306, on28.02.2025 at 09:00 A.M.along with the duly filled application form available on the website.
2. Incomplete application forms and applications that are not in proper format may be summarily rejected.
3. The applications should be submitted strictly as per the prescribed format that can be downloaded from the NABI website.
4. Candidates applying for more than one post can give their preference by writing different designations in the same application form.
5. Candidates should ensure that information mentioned in the application form is accurate. Once the application form is submitted no further request regarding any changes/ information in the application form will be considered.
6. The duly filled application form must be submitted at the time of registration at NABI from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM on 28.02.2025.

7. The candidates must ascertain their eligibility before applying, as ineligible candidates will not be interviewed.
8. All the candidates are requested to appear for a Walk-In interview with an application form, experience certificates, publications, and original degree certificates and transcripts.
9. Original mark sheets, certificates, award/fellowship, etc must be accomplished for verification at the time of the interview, and attach one set of attested copies of the documents with the application form.  
10. No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the interview.
11. Canvassing in any form or bringing influence, political or otherwise, will lead to disqualification of the candidate(s).
12. Candidates should strictly adhere to guidelines issued by World Health Organization and Centre Govt/State Govt on Covid-19. 
13. In the event of special circumstances, candidates may request the project investigator (via email) to conduct their interviews online. Such requests must be submitted well in advance, preferably at least one week prior to the scheduled interview date. However, the final decision will be taken by the selection committee to ascertain the special circumstances and allow the candidate (s) for an online interview. The Institute reserves the right to conduct the interview in online/offline mode.
14. Interview results will be published on the NABI website.

Note : Permission for online interview may be sought from the PI at least one week prior to the interview date and a valid reason must be given for the same.
