DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance invites applications for Adviser

DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance is a Public Charitable Trust registered in India since 2008. It is funded by the Wellcome Trust, UK, and the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, with the broad aim of building excellence in biomedical research in India by selecting and supporting future leaders in the field. IA has recently started Phase 2 (2019-24) with expanded operations to include Team Science Grants, Clinical Research Centres, and allied activities. In addition to its research Fellowships and Grants, India Alliance supports an integrated research ecosystem that values ethics, good management, and the public communication of science to enhance knowledge and drive policy.

Post : Adviser - Fellowship & Grants (5 positions)

Position Requirements
• Ability to understand biomedical research proposals, process them with due diligence, manage peer review and award of funding applications
• Willingness to work in a business environment with close links to scientific research
• Commitment to high standards of ethics and scientific review
• Ability to liaise with the scientific community and develop positive relationships with applicants and grant-holders
• Attention to detail while managing large workloads within given deadlines
• Ability to maintain accurate and organised grant records and the timely input of accurate grant-related and financial data, according to defined standards.
• Ability to work in a team and according to defined standards and controls
• Adequate IT skills and ability to work on large records

Essential :
• Ph.D. in Life Science/Biological Sciences/similar areas with 2-3 years of research administration experience.
• Permission to work in India. The work location will be Hyderabad
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Aptitude for analytical and critical thinking


Desirable :
• Understanding of research funding mechanisms
• Administrative experience within the context of a research funding organisation or a university

Grants Advisers will be trained in the following areas :
• Managing a portfolio of research grant applications and awards
• Identifying appropriate referees and ensuring adequate high-quality review reports are received within the deadlines
• Assisting in other activities of the organization as per need
