Apply Online for Project Scientist in the Life Science Division of IASST

Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology, an Autonomous Institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, invites applications from well-qualified Indian nationals for contractual scientist position at the level of Project Scientist in the Life Science Division of IASST. The position is temporary, initially for 11 months, which may be extended based on availability of fund and performance and may be terminated with one-month notice without giving any reason.

Essential criteria : Qualification : Master and PhD degrees in any branches of Life Sciences with a good academic record throughout the career. Candidate should have a minimum of five (05) research publications in peer- reviewed scopus indexed journals having more than two (02) impact factor (Clarivate) as first/ corresponding author. 
Experience : Minimum four (04) years of post-doctoral experience in Research and Development in Industrial or Academic Institutions. Evidence of leadership with experience of working on fermented foods and beverages including application of ‘Omics’ techniques. 
Age limit : 45 year 
Monthly emolument : Rs 75,000-80,000 (Consolidated) depending on the experience. The selected candidate will be entitled to medical benefits and leave as per the IASST policy. However, he/she will not be provided bonuses, gratuity, or leave travel concessions. 
Job description : The role of the scientist will include liaising with funding agencies for the establishment and operationalization of the research facilities, facilitating the ongoing research and development activities on fermented foods and beverages and phytopharmaceuticals ensuring that the development and marketing of functional foods continue smoothly, assisting, and coordinating between the self-help groups etc. and any other activities assigned by the controlling officer.

General Information
1. Last date of online application is 14 days from the publication date of the advertisement via online mode (Date : 5.08.2024). 
2. Age, as prescribed, shall be as on the 'closing date for receiving application'. Age relaxation for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/other categories as per Government of India rules/orders on the subject.
3. Applications for the above post must be supported by three letters of recommendation, one preferably from the PhD supervisor, to be submitted confidentially to the Director of the Institute (dir.iasst@nic.in). 
4. A summary note (maximum 1000 words) on the research work published by the candidate in the relevant fields after completing the Ph.D. The candidate should highlight the significant works done, output, and achievements from these works for the said period in terms of completed projects, papers published, IPR/Patents obtained, technology generated/commercialized, the contribution made towards infrastructure development, programme/project framing, and fund mobilization, participation in research and teaching activities and linkages, etc. 
5. A research programme and work plan on the area (maximum 2000 words) the candidate wants to pursue being in the position. The information may include new, innovative and original research projects/ideas/thrust areas of work they propose to introduce/conduct, facilities proposed to be developed, linkages and collaboration proposed with other research units and departments of IASST, and the expected outcome from these approaches. While formulating the plan, the institute's past and present achievements, development, and outcome may be reviewed, and critical gaps identified. The institute's website (iasst.gov.in), annual reports, etc., may be consulted for developing the plan. 
6. Candidates are urged to provide details of their academic accomplishments (certificates, testimonials, awards/honours/research achievements, citation index of publications). Candidates are advised not to enclose copies of papers that have been submitted but have not been accepted or published. 
7. Caste certificate is to be provided by the competent authority only. 
8. Foreign Nationals who are "Persons of Indian Origin" (PIO) or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), can also apply. 
9. The institute encourages faculty interaction with industry, other research, and professional institutions. Consultancy is encouraged at IASST, and liberal consultancy policies are in practice. 
10. Facilities for research and development activities exist in all the departments. These are being continuously modernized with modern equipment and services. Good facilities also exist for computing. The institute has a well-stocked library. 


11. A technology business incubator hosted by the Institute, called the ISVEC, promotes technology- based entrepreneurship. 
12. Persons employed in Government/Semi-Government organizations or Educational Institutions must apply through proper channels and provide a No Objection Certificate while applying, without which application will not be considered. However, an advance copy of the application can be submitted. 
13. The Institute reserves the right to fill or not to fill the post advertised. The prescribed essential qualifications are the minimum, and mere possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for an interview. Where the number of applications received in response to the advertisement is large, the institute, at its discretion, may restrict the number of candidates to a reasonable limit based on qualifications/experience higher than the minimum prescribed in the advertisement after a screening process through a duly constituted committee. 
14. A list of candidates shortlisted and not shortlisted for personal interviews shall be notified on the institute website. No correspondence will be entertained from candidates regarding the conduct and result of the interview and reasons for not being called for an interview. 
15. No TA/DA will be provided for appearing in the interview. 
16. Shortlisted candidates may also have to present their work, if required. 
17. Canvassing in any form will disqualify the candidates. 
18. The institute reserves the right to alter/insert any corrections/additions in the advertisement/website in case of any typological error before the last date prescribed for the online application. The institute reserves the right to fill up or not to fill up any of the vacancies without assigning any reason. 
19. All disputes shall come under the Guwahati jurisdiction.
