IIT Roorkee has its roots in the Roorkee College, which was set up in 1847. It was renamed as the Thomason College of Civil Engineering in 1854. The College laid the foundation of modern engineering education and the use of Civil Engineering practices in the infrastructure development of the country. The irrigation infrastructure in the form of dams and canals, roads and highways, railway, bridges, etc. in the country, all have been the outcome of the engineering education imparted in this, the only engineering institution in the country, at that point of time. It got elevated as the first technical University of the country in 1948 through the University of Roorkee Act, 1947 passed by the United Provinces Legislature.

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide. Apart from the various approaches of treatment, cancer chemotherapy is one of the major therapeutic approaches to combat cancer. However, improvements in the survival rate have been only modest mainly due to presence of Cancer Stem Cells. Today, there is a significant clinical need for novel methods of detection and treatment for cancer stem cells that offers improved sensitivity, specificity and cost-effectiveness.

IIT Bombay is currently mentoring IIT Indore.

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi lays a strong emphasis on the sponsored research and industrial interaction. The Industrial Research & Development (IRD) Unit was specifically set up in the Institute to provide specialized administrative and managerial support for the operation of Sponsored Research Projects, Consultancy Jobs and other related R&D activities. The candidate will get highly interdisciplinary work environment to perform cutting age research. As this INNO INDIGO project is an internationally collaborative project (Belgium, Norway and India) postdoctoral fellow will closely work with collaborators from the European Countries and will have opportunity to visit to Belgium/Norway to accomplish the project work.
