The next Indian Pharmaceutical Association Convention (IPA Convention 2011) will be held at Indore in Madhya Pradesh in April next year. This was announced by the outgoing president of IPA Dr B Suresh at the valedictory session of the IPA Convention 2010 held in Chennai last week.
The central executive committee of the IPA on last Sunday has decided to hold the next Convention in Indore. There was a demand from the Chattisgarh Unit of IPA showing interest to conduct the program in their state. Their demand will be considered next year, said J Jayaseelan, secretary of LOC for this year’s convention.
The first national convention of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association was held in New Delhi in 2009. The next convention will be the first one after Dr C Gopalakrishna Murthy’s assumption of office as its president. Murthy will take over charge on April 1 this year.
“The third IPA convention will be a mega event in the national level. We have a dedicated team and Indore is well connected with all the major cities in India like Ahmedabad, Mumbai and New Delhi. So the access facilities will be better. Now we plan to make it a bigger and better event than what was held in Chennai,” said S B Rijhwani, general secretary of IPA Madhya Pradesh branch in a telephonic chat with Pharmabiz.
He said the state branch in Madhya Pradesh can conduct the program in a big way as pharma majors like Ranbaxy, Cipla, Vostok Laboratories, Nicholas Piramal, Syncom Laboratories, Panjon Ltd, Quest Laboratories, Soccrus Remedies and Devu Laboratories have plants in Indore and other parts of the state, so the convention will be a mega event.
Rijhwani said there are more than 50 manufacturing units in Indore, and some of them have recently expanded their operations to Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
Indian Pharmaceutical Association is a professional association of pharmacists in India with more than 10,000 members. The association operates in the country through 17 state branches and more than 33 local branches. The members are from industry, regulatory, community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy and education.
