The King-Morgridge Scholars Program is an exceptional opportunity for incoming international students committed to applying their talents toward poverty alleviation. Selected for their drive, academic success, and commitment to addressing problems of poverty in their own countries, King-Morgridge Scholars will hail from countries in Africa, Latin America, South and Southeast Asia, and the Caribbean
Eligibility Criteria
Current applicants for undergraduate, freshman admission to the University of Wisconsin. Degree seeking, international students only with high financial need from specific geographic areas. Applicants must intend to return home upon completing their degree. Applicants are not eligible if they have enrolled in and completed university level coursework in their home country. Only Fall applicants are eligible.
How to Apply
To be considered for the King-Morgridge Scholars Program, candidates must submit an undergraduate freshman application for admission to the University of Wisconsin Madison. This should be done prior to applying through the WiSH website. Applicants will be asked to provide a short essay addressing their commitment to working on issues of poverty. A letter of recommendation will be optional, however, strongly suggested.
Selection Criteria
Applicants must have submitted an admissions application by the regular decision deadline and should list their citizenship as being one within the regions of Africa, Latin America, South/Southeast Asia, or the Caribbean. Applicants should also address their commitment to working on issues of poverty in their home country or region.
Award Information
Recipients will receive full funding of tuition and fees, on campus room and board, health insurance, airfare, and a stipend for miscellaneous expenses. Made possible through generous gifts by the King and Morgridge families, this endowed program will provide six scholarships each year.
Conditions of Award
Selected recipients should strive to maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average and must be enrolled full time. There will be additional required program activities and volunteer service expectations.
