The St. John's Research Institute (SJRI) is a part of the St John's National Academy of Health Sciences, which is run by the CBCI Society for Medical Education. From its inception, St. John's has set before it an ideal of excellence in academic courses as well as service to society as a result of which it has truly become holistic both in its outlook and in its approach to the problems of community health. In 2000, the Academy decided that its commitment to excellence in research required the setting up of an Institute that was dedicated to the pursuit of research and capacity development in St. John's. This vision encompassed improvement of health of the community and patients through research and development of a Center for Excellence in medical research in India.

Brief Description about the Project
Improving glycemic control among patients with diabetes mellitus seeking care in primary care settings – an implementation research study
Aim : To develop a health care delivery model for diabetes that will improve glycemic control and quality of care for Diabetes Mellitus in urban underprivileged settings
Objectives : To design and identify the most promising delivery model to address barriers to glycemic control through formative research and iterative quality improvement (QI) approach.
To implement and demonstrate feasibility of the most promising model that will improve glycemic control rates by 20% and evaluate quality of care.

Preferred Qualifications : Essential – BSc/MSc Nursing /Pharma/BSc. Life Sciences/ + MPH,
Desirable : MSc. Life Sciences / Pharm / MSc Biostatistics/etc.
Language : English, Kannada, (Read /Write/Translation/Transcription)
Experience : 1 year Experience
Roles and Responsibilities
• Project coordination, data collection, field level supervision of data collection, qualitative interviewing, development of IEC materials and networking with local communities & health officials.
• Patient recruitment, follow-up, communication and interaction.
• Report the project activities being implemented to the core team regularly and creating regular reports to update investigative team, following and updating SOPs/Checklists/Protocols/etc.
• Capacity building, Onsite mentoring and supportive supervision of health care personnel in the health facilities
• Assist in the evaluation of competencies of health care personnel and collection of data from the community,
• Plan and develop quality improvement initiatives at the health facilities to help achieve the project objectives.
• Be prepared to do any other project-related activities as needed
• Essential computer skills – MS Office (Word/Excel/PPT), Referencing Software
• Skilled in using Excel/SPSS/STATA/R etc.
• Experience 1-2 years (in health research, conducting in-depth interviews/FGDs/etc., creating IEC materials)
• Desirable – Experience with non-communicable diseases, national health programmes, health policy, primary healthcare and experience in govt/public health sector
• Desirable – Experience in training, health education, health promotion, public health outreach.
• Desirable - Skilled in using qualitative analysis software such as NVivo/MaxQDA etc
