Jamia Millia Islamia, an institution originally established at Aligarh in United Provinces, India in 1920 became a Central University by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988. In Urdu language, Jamia means ‘University’, and Millia means ‘National’. The story of its growth from a small institution in the pre-independence India to a central university located in New Delhi—offering integrated education from nursery to research in specialized areas—is a saga of dedication, conviction and vision of a people who worked against all odds and saw it growing step by step.
Applications are invited for the temporary post of Research Associate at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi for a research project entitled “Molecular and Bioinformatics based analysis of the candidate genes in water buffalo Bubalns bubalis" sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi.
Summary of the proposal:
The genome of buffalo Bubalus bubalis is yet to receive attention it deserves, although it has great economic potential. We have been pursuing buffalo genomics using cDNA from spermatozoa and somatic tissues and in the process uncovered several genes. In a recent study we reported Major Histocompatibility Complex Dma/figenes and their expressional diversity in healthy and diseased water buffalo Bubalus bubalis. Significantly, upregulation of Dma/p genes and their interacting partners were detected in spleen, gonads and spermatozoa of diseased group of buffaloes as compared to that in healthy ones. Now we propose to explore the involvement of other genes uncoverd from spermatozoa. The tools and techniques already have been standardised in our laboratory.
Project duration: The duration of the project is upto November 28, 2019. Stipend shall be given as per the DBT, New Delhi rule.
