The National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE) was established on July 2, 1999 by merging the Central JALMA Institute for Leprosy (CJIL Field Unit), Avadi with the Institute for Research in Medical Statistics (IRMS), Chennai. The broad objectives of the Institute cover Development of human resources in epidemiology and bio-statistics, Networking of the various ICMR and non-ICMR Institutes at the national level for epidemiological purposes, and Consultancy.

Applications are invited for the project posts under CoAg project from the eligible candidates in the prescribed proforma appended.

Consultant (Non-medical) (Microbiology) 
Name of the project : Antimicrobial resistance in a community and hospitals (ARCH) with specific reference to extended-spectrum cephalosporin, carbapenem and colistin resistance among Enterobacterales (Phase - III) 
Number of Vacancies : 01 (UR)
Essential Qualification : Post Graduate degree in Microbiology/ Molecular biology/ Genomics/ Biotechnology And 
• Must have relevant experience in Research and Development and Published Papers 
Desirable Qualification : • PhD / Post-doctoral experience in molecular biology/genomics/ Bioinformatics 
• Experience in scientific writing as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications • Experience in NGS/WGS analyses Date of Online Interview Will be intimated later

Remuneration : Rs. 85,000/- Per month (Consolidated)
Nature of Duties : Prospective candidate is a self-starter with strong commitment, good communication, managerial skills and the ability to work well under pressure and balance competing priorities in a demanding work environment. Duties include but are not limited to the following : 
•  Provide support for planning, managing and implementation of the project 
•  Close coordination with project staff and investigators at the collaborating institutions for smooth implementation of the project 
•  Prepare study-related protocols/ SOPs/ training materials 
•  Supervise personnel involved in the project to ensure proper conduct of project activities 
•  Responsible for NGS data analyses 
•  Responsible for QA/QC 
•  Responsible for best documentation practices in maintaining project records, reports, and inventory 
•  Liaison with ICMR-NIE Admin for project-related activities such as recruitment, procurement, travel, SOE/UC etc. 
•  Maintaining process measure documentation. 
•  Submit daily updates on project activities to study investigators/ supervisory officers 
•  Contribute to the preparation of project administrative/technical reports and presentations

Consultant (Non medical) (Bioinformatics)
Name of the project : Antimicrobial resistance in a community and hospitals (ARCH) with specific reference to extended-spectrum cephalosporin, carbapenem and colistin resistance among Enterobacterales (Phase - III)

Essential Qualification : •  Post Graduate degree in Bioinformatics/ Computational biology/ Genetics/ Genomics And 
•  Must have relevant experience in Research and Development and Published Papers 
Desirable Qualification : •  PhD/ Post-doctoral experience in Bacterial WGS/ NGS data analysis 
•  Experience in molecular diagnosis/testing of infectious diseases 
•  Experience in scientific writing as evidenced by peer- reviewed publications 
•  Experience in using bioinformatics tools and NGS data visualization tools

• WGS Data Analysis: Collect, pre-process, and quality-control Illumina NextSeq WGS data for bacterial isolates. 
• Responsible for the analysis of whole genome sequence data, including genome assembly and annotation and phylogenetic analysis and screening for AMR genes, virulence factors, and plasmid factors. 
• Implement advanced bioinformatics pipelines for de novo genome assembly and variant calling. 
• Identify and annotate antimicrobial resistance genes and mutations in bacterial genomes. 
• Assess the potential impact of AMR determinants on bacterial phenotypes. 
• Linux Coding and Pipeline Development: Write, optimize, and maintain custom bioinformatics scripts and pipelines. 
• Automate data processing steps and ensure reproducibility of analyses. 
• Reports and Manuscript Writing: Generate detailed reports summarizing genomic analysis findings. 
• Contribute to the preparation of research manuscripts for publication. 
• Responsible for NGS server handling. 
• Contribute to the conduct of WGS training (Bioinformatics component) 
• Submit daily updates on project activities to study investigators/ supervisory officers 
• Contribute to the preparation of project administrative/technical reports and presentations 
• Perform any other work assigned by the Director/ PI/ Co-PI/ Supervisory officers

Consultant (Non medical) (Molecular Biology)
Name of the project : Antimicrobial resistance in a community and hospitals (ARCH) with specific reference to extended-spectrum cephalosporin, carbapenem and colistin resistance among Enterobacterales (Phase - III)

Essential Qualification : • Post Graduate degree in Molecular Biology/ Biotechnology Genomics/ Genetics And 
• Must have relevant experience in Research and Development and Published Papers 
Desirable Qualification : • PhD/ Post-doctoral experience in Microbiology/ Molecular Biology/ Infectious diseases 
• Experience in handling NGS and QC instruments (Tapestation/Qubit).
• Skilled in molecular testing techniques PCR, RT- PCR, Library Preparation for NGS 
• Experience in scientific writing as evidenced by peer- reviewed publications

Nature of Duties
Prospective candidate is a self-starter with strong commitment, good communication, managerial skills and the ability to work well under pressure and balance competing priorities in a demanding work environment. Duties include but are not limited to the following
• Design and execute experiments related to NGS applications, including library preparation, sequencing, and data generation. 
• Perform nucleic acid extraction, purification, and quantification from bacterial isolates. 
• Execute PCR, RT-PCR, and other molecular biology techniques as necessary. 
• Operate and maintain NGS platform – Illumina NextSeq1000 
• Ensure proper calibration, quality control, and troubleshooting of NGS. 
• Monitor sequencing runs, troubleshoot technical issues, and optimize protocols for improved performance. 
• Implement and maintain quality control procedures for NGS workflows. 
• Document experimental procedures, results, and observations following regulatory guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs). 
• Participate in laboratory audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines. 
• Support WGS training (wet lab), and contribute to manuscripts development. 
• Responsible to ensure adequate stock of laboratory supplies and plan for timely procurement of additional supplies. 
• Responsible in maintenance of the NGS lab safety policies

• Contribute to the preparation of project administrative/technical reports and presentations

• Experience in performing bacterial culture and molecular techniques viz. nucleic acid extraction, PCR, serology etc.

• Perform bacteriological culture isolation and identification, AST, PCR, serology etc., as may be applicable/ required for the project. 
• Perform appropriate storage of samples/ isolates 
• Extract high-quality nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) from bacterial isolates using established protocols and techniques. 
• Maintain laboratory testing records and isolate inventories 
• Submit daily updates on project activities to study investigators/ supervisory officers 
• Perform any other work assigned by the Director/ PI/ Co-PI/ Supervisory officers

Nature of Duties : Prospective candidate is a self-starter with strong commitment, good communication, managerial skills and the ability to work well under pressure and balance competing priorities in a demanding work environment. Duties include but are not limited to the following: 
• Managing WGS data. 
• Perform basic analysis, including base call generation reports and assembly of short sequences reads under the supervision of the project senior bioinformatician. 
• Perform basis metrics results from WGS. 
• Assisting the project scientist in molecular testing. 
• Submit daily updates on project activities to study investigators/ supervisory officers. 
• Perform any other work assigned by the Director/ PI/ Co-PI/ Supervisory officers 
Duration : Upto 30.09.2024. (May be extended based on satisfactory performance and continuation of the project)

3) Candidate(s) should note that no edit option will be available to them after saving the application finally. Therefore, the candidates are advised to fill all the details regarding name, category, qualification, experience etc. carefully. Candidates are also advised to ensure that they have uploaded the correct photograph.

Instruction to the candidates 
1. The crucial date for determining the age limit shall be the closing date for receipt of application. 
2. Experience certificate should clearly state the nature of work during the period of employment. Appointment order, pay slip will not be accepted in place of experiencecertificate. Experience certificate should contain salary per month and duration. 
3. No-Objection Certificate from the current employer (for Govt./AB/PSU Servants only). 
4. The above said post is Contractual for the duration offered. The appointment may be renewed after every specific period of time subject to satisfactory performance and project requirement. 
5. The incumbents selected will have no claim for regular appointments under NIE/ICMR or continuation of his/her services in any other project. 
6. TA/DA will not be paid by NIE for attending the written test/interview. 
7. The Director, ICMR-NIE reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of posts or cancel the recruitment or re-advertise the posts, without assigning any reasons thereof, no further correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
