Job Description
Purpose of the Job
The Pharma Director is responsible for leading, developing and managing the performance of Sales and Content Solutions professionals, and is focused on accelerating growth of the Pharma business for the Elsevier Health Solutions business in India and the rest of South Asia. The job holder is responsible for customers in Pharmaceutical channels as well as for capitalizing on the customized Pharma business in health solution products. As a member of the management team, the job holder will contribute to the overall strategy, growth, and success of the business.
Key Result Areas (Main Activities and Responsibilities)
Business growth and development
1. Achieve revenue growth and profit objectives for Pharma and Health Solutions
2. Translate client requirements into realistic propositions in support of the global and APAC goals
3. Regular market visits, establish networking with related stakeholders to promote, recommend products and service solutions, close and secure business; and increase market share in the territory
4. Ensure the brand is developed through high quality customer interactions and delivery
5. Strategize and plan for current and future business growth
Strategy and Leadership
1. Develop growth Strategy for Pharma division
2. Manage, develop, motivate and inspire a cohesive team to execute on strategy
3. Drive high levels of sales effectiveness, and forecasting; adjusting actions accordingly to meet changing conditions and to achievement targets
4. Provide detailed market feedback, market developments and updates to senior management
5. Gather, monitor and evaluate competitive information and impact on sales and develop contingency plan to address competition and new market developments
New Project Development
1.Investigate, propose and develop new solutions geared towards penetrating new market opportunities
2. Keep up-to-date with the latest development in pharma business/products
3. Identify key market trends and issues, analyze competitive landscape, pinpoint specific opportunities
Inter-department Relationships
1. Collaborate within the local, regional and global organisation to achieve agreed outcomes and support overall business goals
2. Work with Business Controller in providing the necessary updates and strategies on pricings and discounts optimization
3. Work across the organization to provide leads to other sales channels (Academic, eSales and Journals) on market needs and potential opportunities

Technical and Functional Competencies
· Knowledge of the medical/ pharmaceutical industry (desired but not essential)
· Knowledge of marketing and command of B2B sales cycle
· Strong communication, and presentation skills; highly numerate
· Has vision & direction and provides the same for the team
· Has the maturity and credibility to lead a team of highly skilled, and diverse professionals
Candidate Profile :
15 - 17 yrs experience in a Sales/ Commercial role, plus at least 4-5+ years in a sales leadership role Strong track record in sales and sales management Demonstrated ability to drive business growth and development
