National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences is a multidisciplinary Institute for patient care and academic pursuit in the frontier area of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences. The Lunatic Asylum which came into being in the latter part of the 19th Century was renamed as Mental Hospital in 1925 by the erstwhile Government of Mysore.
Applications are invited from the eligible candidates, for filling up the following posts on contract basis in the University of Liverpool, UK funded project entitled “Brain infection Global (BIG)” – under Dr.V.Ravi, Senior Professor & Head, Dept. of Neurovirology and Chief Investigator.
Project Coordinator - 01 (One)
Qualification
MBBS OR
Masters in Public Health (MPH) OR
Masters Degree in Life Sciences/ Microbiology/ Virology/ Nursing with 3 years of experience of working in clinical and/or public health heath projects
Desirable
• PhD in Microbiology/virology
• Monitoring and Evaluation skills, Networking skills
• Data analytical skills
• Prior work experience in a clinical/Public health project dealing with patients
• A demonstrable ability to conduct and supervise research.
Maximum Age limit : 30 years
Salary : Rs 60,000 per month (consolidated)
Work location* : One position will be based at NIMHANS, Bengaluru ,
Key responsibility : Should assist the PI, Co-PI, physician at the site and conduct key activities for all the sites (Bangalore and Kolar) for case detection, enrolment, obtaining informed consent for participation in the study, entry of all clinical and laboratory data and collection and transport of specimens.
Duration of the post : 02 Years Initial appointment will be made for one year, extendable based on the performance of the candidate.
Senior Research Fellow - 01 (One)
Qualification
Masters Degree in / Microbiology/ Virology with 2 years of experience of working in clinical microbiology / virology diagnostic laboratory
Desirable
• Prior work experience with serological/molecular techniques used for diagnosis of brain infections
• Knowledge of inventory maintenance of samples, kits and reagents
Maximum Age limit : 30 years
Salary : Rs 40,000 per month (consolidated)
Work location* : One position will be based at NIMHANS, Bengaluru ,
Key responsibility : Should perform all laboratory tests of samples received from patients enrolled in the project, assist the PIs and Co-PIs training of laboratory technicians at other sites and monitoring lab results obtained at all sites.
Duration of the post : 02 Years Initial appointment will be made for one year, extendable based on the performance of the candidate.
Research Officer - 04 (Four)*
Qualification
• MBBS OR
• Masters in Public Health (MPH) OR
• Masters Degree in Life Sciences / Microbiology / Virology / Nursing with 2 years of experience of working in clinical and/or public health heath projects
Desirable
• Prior work experience in a clinical/Public health project dealing with patients
• A demonstrable ability to conduct and supervise research
• Proficient in Data collection
Maximum Age limit : 30 years
Salary : Rs 35,000 per month (consolidated)
Work location* : One position each will be based at NIMHANS & Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, Bengaluru and one post each at Dr.RL Jalappa Hospital and SNR Hospital, Kolar
Key responsibility : Should assist the physician at the site and conduct key activities at the site for case detection, enrolment, obtaining informed consent for participation in the study, entry of all clinical and laboratory data and collection and transport of specimens.

Social Scientist - 02 (Two)*
Qualification
• M. Phil in Social Work/ Psychology and
• 2 years of experience working in public health/ social science or psychology research. OR
• PhD in Social Work/ Psychology with experience in qualitative research methods and data analysis.
Desirable
• Specific research/ practice experience or interest in vulnerable groups/mental health would be an advantage.
• A demonstrable ability to conduct and supervise research
• Training in qualitative research – conducting research, analysis and scientific report writing.
Maximum Age limit : 45 years
Salary : Rs 60,000 per month (consolidated)
Work location* : One position will be based at NIMHANS, Bengaluru & One position at CMC, Vellore
Key responsibility : Conducting key activities at the cross centre and cross country level in patient and sample journey in Brain Infections and management, conducting qualitative interviews, focus group discussions and analysis under the guidance and supervision of the Investigators. The person should be willing to travel for the project purpose.
Duration of the post : 02 Years Initial appointment will be made for one year, extendable based on the performance of the candidate.
