National Centre for Biological Sciences are a premier research institute with all the necessary facilities that a research scientist may need. National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) - Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), a premier research invites eligible and interested candidates for appearing in Walk-in for the following posts on a contract basis in research facilities. The appointment will be a fixed-term position initially for one (1) year and renewable annually subject to the outcome of a performance assessment. The position comes with consolidated pay based on qualification and experience, subject to institutional guidelines.
Facility Manager (C elegans facility) - 1 post
Job Location : Bangalore
Essential Qualification : MSc/MTech Life Science from a recognized University / Institute with aggregate of 55% marks and 10 years of appropriate experience in handling or maintaining C. elegans strains with Basic knowledge of genetics required for working with C. elegans. Expertise in making C. elegans transgenics using germline microinjection. Expertise in making C. elegans culture plates, media, worm specific buffers etc. Knowledge of fluorescent- and brightfield-microscopes

Job Description
A facility manager is needed in the C elegans facility.
The C. elegans facility in NCBS, Bangalore is a well-established, fully functional central facility that provides many services to internal and external research labs that use nematode C. elegans as a model organism. List of Services that are offered through the C. elegans facility are:
a. Maintaining C. elegans (or other nematode) strains in growing conditions as well as in frozen conditions
b. Supplying C. elegans culture plates, media, worm specific buffers etc.
c. Making new transgenic C. elegans strains through germline microinjection.
d. Making CRISPR/Cas-9-based knockout alleles of C. elegans
e. Training for new users in regular C. elegans work as well as in generating transgenic C. elegans strains through germline microinjection.
f. Stereomicroscopy requirements for maintaining C. elegans strains, performing genetic crosses and doing various behavioral assays.
g. Fluorescent stereomicroscopy requirements for selecting and maintaining fluorescent transgenic strains, as well as analyzing various phenotypes based on fluorescence.
h. Widefield fluorescent microscopy requirements.
Field station manager - 1 post

Job Description
in view of the significant expansion of the Ecology and Evolution programme over the last decade, NCBS has developed Field Stations. The aim of this is to carry out field-based research in various fields. This research primarily depends on fieldwork carried out in various biogeographic zones across India coupled with specimens and other related genetic material collected in the field at NCBS. The goal is to streamline field operations, to provide space for long-term archival of important biodiversity-related materials.
a. Provide a core facility for biodiversity-related work by NCBS labs.
b. Support for field research in contemporary and frontier areas of ecology, evolution, and conservation genetics.
c. Other selected activities required from time to time.
Research and outreach: The activities include:
a. Manage Projects already underway like insect diversity inventory and monitoring across India, comprehensive forest carbon monitoring network, biodiversity assessment of Central Indian landscape, biogeography of birds and mammals in India, herpetofaunal diversity across India.
b. Manage the NCBS-TIFR Pachmarhi field-station.
c. Development of field sites at proposed locations to facilitate field research.
d. Other future projects of similar kind.
Provide expertise in the following areas:
a. Providing taxonomic expertise in the identification of fauna and flora, especially insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, and plants.
b. Scientific assistance to various researchers engaged in ecology and evolution studies in NCBS and its close collaborators.
Candidates who have prior experience in the aforementioned areas will be given priority.
