To underpin our commitment to serve patients, Amgen is expanding our Research and Development facility in Bangalore, India. We are seeking an Associate Director to be part of our world-class Therapeutic Discovery organization to lead Therapeutic Antibody discovery and development efforts spanning from lead discovery through early optimization. This Associate Director will partner with colleagues in the North American Discovery research group to develop a Lead Discovery Plan for a target of interest and then transfer and build out the necessary capability to conduct this research in India. This scientific leader will be supported by a small team of scientists specifically dedicated to this effort, in addition being part of the larger team based in India who will also support the effort.
Responsibilities will include (but not limited to) overseeing laboratory experiments; project strategy and tactical approach; designing and implementing scientific research; planning detailed procedures for defined projects including timelines, milestones, methodological approaches, expected results and necessary resources; reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting scientific data and results; providing regular updates, documentation, and/or communication on project results; collaborating with other scientists and keeping current with field of expertise, including literature and technology development. Additional responsibilities may include advising supervisors and colleagues in areas of expertise; participating in national and international scientific meetings; providing scientific results that support the generation of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions and supervising research associates and laboratory assistants.
This Associate Director will break new ground establishing this capability in India. With this in mind the successful candidate will require significant flexibility; initially the role will involve general support for establishing the core screening capability that could support a range of projects; including small molecule and non-therapeutic antibody generation. Longer term a more defined focus on specific therapeutic projects will develop.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimal 10+years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry (US/Canada/Europe pharma preferred)
- Demonstrated ability as a lead investigator on a Biologic Molecule discovery and development effort.
- Large and small molecule assay development experience, including, design, development and validation of biological, biophysical and pharmacological assays to support drug discovery efforts
- Preclinical development of therapeutic molecules: assessment of in vitro and in vivo pharmacology
- Wide breadth of experience in screening methodologies
- Experience with animal-based antibody generation techniques
- Breadth of experience in biophysical characterization of large molecules.
- Track record of completing challenging technical problems independently and creatively.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment.
- Ability to design & execute experiments independently and to interpret & communicate/explain results.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to work in a flexible team-oriented environment.
- An ability to prioritize effectively, utilize resources efficiently and construct realistic experimental timelines.
- Proactive, enthusiastic, show a desire to learn and be a part of a busy, highly productive team
