National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) was founded by Sir Robert McCarrison in the year 1918 as ‘Beri-Beri’ Enquiry Unit in a single room laboratory at the Pasteur Institute, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. Within a short span of seven years, this unit blossomed into a "Deficiency Disease Enquiry" and later in 1928, emerged as full-fledged "Nutrition Research Laboratories" (NRL) with Dr. McCarrison as its first Director. It was shifted to Hyderabad in 1958.

(1) NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF NUTRITION (NIN), HYDERABAD:
The National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) is engaged in top level basic, applied and operational research in different Nutritional sciences.
The Institute has been responsible for initiating major research programmes in human nutrition and has also been serving as an important training center in Nutritional Sciences in the South East Asian region for medical and paramedical persons.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE :
(i) Postgraduate degree in Medicine/Pathology/Community Medicine/any relevant medical subject recognized by MCI or Doctorate degree in any Life Sciences/Biological Sciences or relevant Biological subjects from a recognized University or equivalent.
(ii) Fifteen years R&D experience in the relevant areas in a recognized institute(s) after obtaining essential qualification (i) above out of which at least 5 years in a managerial position to handle R &D projects independently in a team effectively and independent management of a Division/Institute.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION :
(i) Additional Postdoctoral research/teaching experience in relevant subjects after M.D./Ph.D./D.Sc. in recognized institute(s)
(ii) Knowledge of Computer Applications.
JOB REQUIREMENTS :
The Director is expected to provide high level leadership in identification formulation and implementation of R & D programmes and projects of national importance in the field of human nutrition. He/She is expected to develop fruitful linkages with academic and professional institutions, Government and International research agencies. He/She will have the overall responsibility for the working of the Institute within the framework of the ICMR system and for ensuring an atmosphere conducive and creative work.
(2) NATIONAL JALMA INSTITUTE FOR LEPROSY & OTHER MYCOBACTERIAL DISEASES (NJIL&OMD), AGRA:
Established in 1964 by Japanese and taken over by ICMR in 1976, the National JALMA Institute for Leprosy & Other Mycobacterial Diseases at Agra has grown into one of the major national and international institutions devoted to mycobacterial research. Most of the research programme of Institute are focused in TB, Leprosy and to some extent on Co-infection such as HIV & others. The Institute has a total of around 200 staffs out of which 10% are scientists at different levels. Institute has almost equal number of personnel working in extramural programme and a strong student based research programme. The Institute also has a 60 bedded hospital for the treatment and care of in-patients. On an average daily 300 patients attend the out-patient department. It has a model in the Rural Health Research Unit at Ghatampur (Kanpur), U.P., dedicated to clinical and other research in TB, Leprosy and other health programmes related activities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
This is a top science managerial post and the incumbent will be required to provide vision, leadership and strategic direction to a skilled multidisciplinary team. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing partnerships and collaborating with multiple stakeholders for effective control of mycobacterial diseases. He/she should have leadership, management and administrative skills in a responsible position to oversee the activities of the Centre. The incumbent will be expected to provide leadership for the development of cutting-edge-science strategies and tools for the diagnosis and monitoring and evaluation of communicable diseases. The incumbent will be required to facilitate and ensure the overall planning and direction and the implementation of all the activities of the centre. In addition he/she will be expected to develop innovative national and international collaborative programmes as well as mobilize resources from diverse funding agencies.
AGE LIMIT: Not exceeding 52 years. Relaxable up to 5 years for Government servants and SC/ST/OBC candidates in accordance with the instructions issued by the Department of Personnel & Training from time to time in this regard.
GENERAL RELAXATION CLAUSE: Age, qualification and experience will be relaxable in deserving cases as mentioned in the Recruitment Rules of Health Research Scientists Cadre of ICMR, 2007 under Rule 14 and Notes: 1 & 2 of Schedule- III.

(1) Pay Band-4 Rs.37400-67000 Plus Grade Pay Rs.10000/-.
(2) Allowances as per Central Government Rules are admissible on the above pay Scale.
(3) Benefits of new restructured defined contributory Pension system are admissible as per the provision contained in the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs (ECD & PR Division), Notification No.5/7/2003-ECD & PR dated 22.12.2003 effective from 1.1.2004.
(4) Private practice is not allowed. However, non-practicing allowance is admissible to medical graduates only as per rules.
