National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) was founded by Sir Robert McCarrison in the year 1918 as Beri-Beri Enquiry Unit in a single room laboratory at the Pasteur Institute, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. Within a short span of seven years, this unit blossomed into a Deficiency Disease Enquiry and later in 1928, emerged as full-fledged Nutrition Research Laboratories (NRL) with Dr. McCarrison as its first Director. It was shifted to Hyderabad in 1958.At the time of its golden jubilee in 1969, it was renamed as National Institute of Nutrition (NIN).

Banaras Hindu University ranks among the first few in the country in the field of academic and research output. This university has two campuses, 3 institutes, 16 faculties, 140 departments, 4 advanced centers and 4 interdisciplinary schools. The ICMR-National Institute of Epidemiology (ICMR-NIE) is a permanent premier institute of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) established on July 2, 1999 by merging the Central JALMA Institute for Leprosy (CJIL Field Unit), Avadi with the Institute for Research in Medical Statistics (IRMS), Chennai.  The broad objectives of the Institute cover conducting epidemiological studies, development of human resources in epidemiology and bio-statistics, networking of the various ICMR and non-ICMR Institutes at the national level for epidemiological purposes, an

The PGIMER owes its inception to the vision of late Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, the then Chief Minister of Punjab and the distinguished medical educationists of the then combined state of Punjab, supported by the first Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru who considered the institutions of scientific knowledge as temples of learning and the places of pilgrimage.

ICMR intends to engage following Non-lnstitutional Project Positions, purely on temporary contract basis for its short-term research projects, being undertaken by the Medical Device and Diagnostic Mission Secretariat (MDMS) at ICMR HQ.
