The Department of Biological Sciences (DBS), located at the picturesque Colaba campus of TIFR on the southern-most tip of the island city of Mumbai, India, was established in the 1960s as the erstwhile Molecular Biology Unit by Professor Obaid Siddiqi. DBS has since expanded to engage with diverse aspects of modern biology, capitalizing on a gamut of model organisms and state-of-the-art tools and approaches.
