Abstract
Transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS) has emerged as a potential novel drug delivery system in the last 30 years to improve the therapeutic efficacy and safety, maintain steady state plasma level of drugs and overcome significant drawbacks of the conventional oral dosage forms and parenteral preparations. TDDS is ideally suited for diseases that demand chronic treatment with frequent dosing. This review deals with a brief insight on the formulation aspects, the physical and chemical enhancers being explored to enhance the transdermal delivery of drugs across the stratum corneum, the evaluation parameters (physicochemical, in vitro, in vivo studies) and therapeutic applications of TDDS.

Assam, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu have been awarded as the Best Performing States in implementing National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) which has completed five years.

 In the wake of the recent unearthing of major illegal trade practices including recycling of expired drugs by certain pharmaceutical traders in Chennai, the Health Department of Tamil Nadu Government has decided to enforce the Drugs & Cosmetics Act and Rules strictly in the state.

In a series of raids conducted in several places of the city and in various parts of the state during the last 10 days, the state drug authorities have detected several illegal activities of the pharma traders in which expired and label tampered drugs worth lakhs of rupees were seized from shops of stockists and residences of unlicensed persons
