AICTE SPONSORED QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME
Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences has been organizing the Quality Improvement Programme for last five years. QIP 2011 would be fifth in this series.
QIP 2011 comprise of three programmes of two weeks duration each.
1. Pharmaceutics Division would focus upon Nanotechnology Based Drug Delivery Systems. Nanoparticles hold tremendous potential in effective drug delivery system in the modern era. During QIP, lecture / discussion will be held on recent developments in nanotechnology with special reference to its vital role in drug delivery system. To achieve efficient drug delivery, it is important to understand the interactions of nanomaterials with the biological environment, targeting cell-surface receptors, drug release, multiple drug administration, stability of therapeutic agents and molecular mechanisms of cell signaling involved in pathobiology of the disease under consideration.

2. Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacology Division would address the issues related to Recent Trends in Discovery, Development and Pharmacological Screening of Novel Therapeutics. The compounds to be discovered and developed using CADD based software such as GLIDE, SYBYL, FlexX, SCIGRESS Explorer are synthesized, characterized and subjected to in-vitro and in-vivo screening using Hebb-Williams Maze, Rotarod, Ethovision, NIBP and others. QIP will focus on the area of anti-diabetics, anticancer, antiulcer, analgesics and other prominent areas to establish receptor specific, potent novel therapeutics.
3. Pharmacognosy Division would address the issues related to Novel Drug Delivery Systems in Herbal Drugs. Formulating a novel herbal formulations like nanoparticles, nanoemulsions, nanocapsules, liposomes, phytosomes, microsphere, transferosomes etc. by using bioactive and plant extracts is being discussed with paramount importance. These formulations show promising advantages over conventional formulations in terms of enhancement of pharmacological activity, solubility, bioavailability and stability. The program will highlight the current status and various strategies to development novel drug delivery system(s) for herbal drugs.
