Indian Pharmacopoeia commission, IPC indicated adverse drug interactions associated with widely used antibiotic cephalosporins and Amikacin.
Cephalosporins are beta-lactam antimicrobials used to manage a wide range of infections from Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.And Amikacin is indicated in the treatment of serious infections due to amikacin sensitive organisms.
The preliminary analysis of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) from the PvPI database revealed that these drugs are associated with the ADRs. Cephalosporins is linked with Purpura, a rash of purple spots due to small blood vessels leaking blood into the skin, joints, intestines or organs. And Amikacin is associated with Vision blurred.
IPC advised healthcare professionals, patients or consumers to closely monitor the possibility of the above ADRs associated with the use of above suspected drugs.
