PHD Chamber with the support of Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India organized a Workshop on ‘Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya JanAushadhi Pariyojana’ held on 12th July 2018 at Hotel Radisson Blu, Amritsar.

The key objective of Jan Aushadhi scheme was to provide quality of medicine and its availability in the country, by ensuring, access to medicines through the CPSU supplies and through GMP Compliant manufacturers in the private sector. Also develop a model which can be replicated not only in India but also in other less developed countries in their common goal of improving quality affordable health care by improving access to quality medicines at affordable prices. There’s a need to create a demand for generic medicines By All for All by improving access to better healthcare through low treatment costs and easy availability wherever needed in all therapeutic categories.

Mr. Sanjay Suri, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Govt. of India thanked PHD Chamber for organizing the workshop on Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya JanAushadhi Pariyojana for creating awareness. He also added that DOP already done 12 successful workshops on PMBJP last year. He has also given some figures about Indian Pharma Industry and generic medicine market. He told that India has more than 10,000 manufacturing units, more than 1400 WHO GMP compliant plant, 700 USFDA approved plants, 250 EDQMA approved plants and out of top 20 generic medicine manufacturing companies, 8 are from India. India exports 35% of generic medicines to USA. He also gave assurance about the quality of generic medicines and told to work on availability of medicines.

Shri. Kulvinder Singh, Zonal Licensing Authority, Punjab addressed the delegates and also assured for full support from the government to promote the JanAushadhi Scheme. He further appreciated the Jan Aushadhi scheme and also assured for full support in opening of JanAushadhi Kendras to chemists. He also talks about the requirement to open a JanAushadhi store and answered the queries from delegates about availability of medicines, JanAushadhi store license in rural areas of Punjab and distance to maintain for opening a new store in same city. He also suggested to ask government to allow JanAushadhi stores in government hospitals.

Shri Sachin Kumar Singh, I.R.S, Chief Executive Officer, BPPI addressed the delegates and said BPPI has constant focus in the betterment of JanAushadhi Stores. He told that they have been working on state of the art supply chain management policy to make drug availability in every JanAushadhi Stores. He also told that the aim of PMBJP scheme is to provide a good quality medicine at low rate with market intervention. He said there are around 3730 JanAushadhi stores currently running in all states and also talked about “New Store Expansion Strategy” with aim to expand the presence in all 717 districts. He also talked about the commercial viability of the store by creating awareness among the local doctors through organizing doctor seminars like CMEs and also told that BPPI person will help the chemist to increase the sale of the store. He also gave details about the process of medicine availability and the phases through which each and every medicine has to pass for the quality checks. He also talked about improvement in SAP based inventory management system with bar code scanning system and the new 50,000 sq.ft of warehouse. He has also told that BPPI is launching a new mobile app in near future. He also told that BPPI aims to achieve a 1000cr turnover till 2019 which is equal to the 2500cr of market price. He told to focus on public awareness about generic medicines. He also addressed the questions and queries of the delegates and said there’s no supply chain issue and we are further working on the betterment of the JanAushadhi Kendras.

Mr. Vivek Seigell, Principal Director, PHD Chamber said that there’s a need for active role of pharmacists for successfully execution of the Jan Aushadhi Scheme. He also said that today’s workshop will sensitize all the stakeholders in achieving the common goal of improving quality and affordable health care. Also providing access to quality medicines at low cost to the masses. He also supported the initiative by BPPI for their “New Store Expansion Strategy” and their aim to expand the presence in all 717 districts and also ensured to expand their reach by organizing more and more workshops and seminars on PMBJP with the support of Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers. He has also appreciated the initiative by Prof. Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, to open a JanAushadhi Store in university campus and also appreciated the IMA for their effort to successfully run the JanAushadhi store and assurance for opening more stores.

Shri Dr. Rahul Arora, General Secretary, IMA said there is a need to open up of JanAushadhi Kendras to rural areas as well, where people do not get proper facilities and medicines. He also asked about not providing license to open a JanAushadhi store in rural areas of Punjab and to work on supply chain management of the medicines. Dr. Arora also urged young students and entrepreneur to come forward and take benefit of JanAushadhi Scheme. He also said that Indian Medical Association is already running a JanAushadhi store and look forward to open more JanAusahdi Kendras in near future.

Prof. Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, Professor, Punjab Pharmacy College, Amritsar thanked PHD Chamber for conducting the seminar on PMBJP and promoted the JanAushadhi Scheme and promised to create awareness for the young Pharma Students. He also told to do a MOU with Department of Pharmaceuticals and BPPI for organizing awareness programmes in University Campus for which he asked to seek inputs from DOP and BPPI. He also assured to open a JanAushadhi Store in the university campus.
Mr. Kulvinder Singh, Zonal Licensing Authority, Punjab addressed the questions of the delegates in getting licence and approval for opening JanAushadhi Kendras. He also assured full support and corporation in opening of JanAushadhi Kendras. Mr. Singh also urged young Pharma students to come forward and spread the awareness about generic medicines.

Mr. P. L. Seth, President, Punjab Pradesh Vyapar Mandal also shared his views and fully support the JanAushadhi Scheme. He also got some questions regarding opening of JanAushadhi store by an existing chemist

Mr. Surinder Duggal, General Secretary, Chemists Association thanked all the dignitaries and delegates for attending the workshop. He has shared his views and concerns with the generic medicines available in the market. He also raised his doubts about the medicine efficacy and asked to validate the medicines with proper quality. He also told that the chemist association is ready to sell the Jan Aushadhi medicines if government permits to sell from the existing chemist store. He also told that they have circulated the circular to all 8 lacs chemist members all India to keep at least one shelf for generic substitute of the medicine. He also suggested to close the e-pharmacy in Punjab for at least one year to boost the JanAushadhi store medicine market.

The Seminar was attended by more than 80 delegates including, Doctors, Pharmacists, NGOs & Academicians.
