ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION IN JANUARY 2027 SESSION
1. PhD Sciences (Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematical & Information Sciences, Agricultural Sciences) :
Qualifying degree:
A 2-year. 4-semester Master’s degree in science or equivalent after a 3-year. 6-semester Bachelor’s degree m Science or equivalent, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point-scale.
OR
A 4-year. 8-semester Bachelors degree m Science or engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point -scale.
A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC ST OBC (non- creamy layer) Differently-Abled.. Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
Eligible categories :
National-level fellowship (Tenable at all AcSIR Associaied Research Institutes except ICMR Institutes)'. Applicant should have a valid National-level Fellowship of any funding agency (e.g. CSIK ICMR: UGC; DBT: INSPIRE, RGNF: etc).

Institutional fellowship (Tenable only at DST-CeXS, DST-IASST, DST-IIA, DST-ARIES, MoEFCC-WII, TIGS): Applicants without any National-level Fellowship may apply for the Institutional fellowship at the select AcSER. Industry Institute Sponsored candidates (Tenable at all AcSIR Associated Research Institutes except ICMR Institutes): Regular Employees working in an Industry Institute; Permanent Scientific. Technical employees of Associated Research Institutes of AcSIR may apply subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria at B (Annexure- I). NOC from the current employer (Industry Institute) is mandatory.
2. PhD (Medical Research) (tenable only at ICMR Institutes, MAX and TIGS) :
Qualifying degree :
Doctor of Medicine (D.M.) or Master of Chirurgiae (M.Ch.) or Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Master of Surgery (MS.) from the National Medical Commission (NMC) (erstwhile Medical Council of India) recognized Medical College.
OR
Master’s degree in Science Public Health with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point- scale.
Master’s in Population Studies.. Social Medicine, Community Health, Anthropology, Sociology, Social Work, Mathematical Sciences, Economics, Biostatistics and Demography with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade m a point-scale.
MCA M.Sc in Computer Science or equivalent with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point-scale.
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), or Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) Master of Dental Surgery (MDS), from the National Medical Commission (NMC) (erstwhile Medical Council of India) recognized Medical College, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point-scale.

Industry Institute Sponsored candidates: Regular Employees working in an Industry Institute; Permanent Scientific Technical employees of Associated Research Institutes of AcSIR may apply subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria at B (Annexure-I). NOC from the current employer (Industry Institute) is mandatory with grant of leave for the first two semesters.
A. Eligibility for Project Assistants
i. For the sake of determining the eligibility for PhD admission, the "Project Assistants” will be considered equivalent to all such temporary* employment in on-going research projects at the institute including nomenclatures such as project JRF.SRF, project fellow senior project fellow, project associates., research intern, etc.
ii. Only those Project Assistants working in the Institutes may be considered for admission to AcSIR Ph.D. program who have been in temporary employment as a Project Assistant in a sanctioned R&D project in the same Institute for at least one year (one year will be determined as on the last date of submitting the application on the AcSIR admission portal as notified by AcSIR for each Academic Session m which the Project Assistant mtends to seek admission for Ph.D.): and can only apply with the prior permission of the PI of the project and concurrence of the Director of the Institute;
iii. Project Assistants who have not qualified any National level Examination, will need to have at least one patent (Filed) or one publication in a SCI journal with substantial research contribution as a coauthor by the day of application;
iv. Project Assistants who have qualified any PhD qualifying National level Examination [NET (Category 2 and 3) as per public notice no.F.- 1(UGC-NET Review Committee);2024(NET) 140648 dated March 27, 2024, GATE, BET, JEST, etc.], even without eligible fellowship, will be exempted from the eligibility criteria of having one publication;
v. The selection shall be made on the basis of an interview by the Selection Committee constituted at the Institute;
vi. On completion of their tenure of the R&D project from which the student was drawing his. her fellowship, the student may be given an option to continue in the Ph.D program without a fellowship, with approval of the Director of the concerned Institute, failing which their admission m the Ph.D program will stand cancelled.
Eligibility- for Sponsored Candidate
a. Candidates sponsored by Industry must be a regular employee of the Sponsoring Industry, meet the requisite academic qualifications, and are required to submit the documents supporting the following:
i. The candidate is a regular, full-time employee of the Sponsoring Industry.
ii. The Sponsoring Industry has no objection to the candidate pursuing the Ph.D. program at AcSIR and grants permission for the candidate’s admission to the program, including permission to undertake the required residency at the concerned AcSIR-associated Research Institute, as prescribed under the applicable rules and regulations of AcSIR.
iii. The Sponsoring Industry agrees to sponsor the candidate for the duration of the Ph.D. program. Sponsormg Industry is required to sign an MoU with the concerned AcSIR associated Research Institute once the candidate is selected.
OR,
b. Candidates sponsored by Organization (R&D Institutes Government Non-Government Academic Organizations) must be a regular employee of the Organization, meet the academic qualifications, and submit the documents supporting the following:
i. The sponsormg Organization is recognized by the relevant statutory or regulatory body.
ii. The Sponsoring Organization has no objection to the candidate pursuing the Ph.D. program at AcSIR and grants permission for the candidate's admission to the program, including permission to undertake the required residency' at the concerned AcSIR-associated Research Institute, as prescribed under the applicable rules and regulations of AcSIR.
iii. The Sponsoring Organization agrees to sponsor the candidate for the duration of the Ph.D. program.
OR,
c. Permanent Scientific and Technical Staff of AcSIR associated Research Institutes: Group IV and Group IE of CSIR and equivalent rank of other AcSIR associated Research Institutes. The candidate must strictly adhere to all guidelines and formalities of both AcSIR and the associated Research Institute.
Additional Information
1. Applicants whose final results are awaited, but are otherwise eligible as per the criteria, can also apply. If selected, they will be provisionally admitted to the program. Their continuation in the program will be subject to securing required percentage equivalent grade (depending on the cut-off marks for screening for the specific program), submission of marks-sheet of their final result, and meeting the other eligibility criteria, at the time of joining the program.
2. The tuition fee once paid by the student selected for PhD admission to any AcSIR Research Institute, is transferable to any other AcSIR-associated institute, where the student has been also selected for admission in the PhD program (mcluding being selected from the waiting list), subject to the availability of seats. The tuition fee would only be transferable till the commencement of the academic session, as notified by AcSIR- HQs. for admission to that particular semester.
