Minimum Educational Qualification and Qualifying Examination
• Minimum first class* Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Physics, Biophysics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Pharmacy or equivalent PG degree AND valid GATE qualification OR a valid UGC/CSIR-JRF/DST-INSPIRE qualification or equivalent fellowship OR
• Minimum first class* M. Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Mechanical/ Biomedical/ Chemical/ Biotechnology/ Pharmaceutical Engineering/ Agricultural Engineering or equivalent PG degree AND IITI/Acad/PhD Admissions/Adv/MFSBSBE/2026-27/04/01 1st September 2026 GATE qualification OR with a valid UGC/CSIR-JRF/DST-INSPIRE qualification or equivalent fellowship OR
• Minimum first class* in a four year Bachelor’s degree program in Computer science and Engineering/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Mechanical/ Biomedical/ Chemical/ Biotechnology/ Pharmaceutical Engineering/ Agricultural Engineering or equivalent bachelor degree AND valid GATE qualification OR with a valid UGC/CSIR-JRF/DST- INSPIRE qualification or equivalent fellowship.

*First Class as defined by the University/ Institute awarding the degree and is defined as per the Marks /CGPA/ CPI/ Percentage in qualifying degree described as below
1. For UR/EWS/ OBC(NCL) category :
• A minimum of 60% marks in aggregate, OR
• A First class as specified by the university, OR
• A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) / Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.0 on a scale of 0 – 10, OR
• An equivalent to 6.0 CGPA/ CPI on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 0 – 10.

2. For SC/ST/PwD category
• A minimum of 55% marks in aggregate, OR
• A First class as specified by the university, OR
• A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) / Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 5.5 on a scale of 0 – 10, OR
• An equivalent to 5.5 CGPA/ CPI on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 0 – 10.

Candidates must apply ONLINE through our website (phdapply.iiti.ac.in/). This will generate a unique application number for each applicant.

• Candidates shortlisted for interview must bring the signed hard copy of the application along with SBI Collect receipt, recent photograph, self-attested relevant certificates (for SW candidates: NOC, experience certificate, last 3 months salary slips, and Employer's PAN card) at the time of the Interview.
• In case a candidate wishes to apply in more than one department, then a separate application must be filled for each department.
• No TA/DA will be provided to the applicants if called for written test/interview.
• The shortlisted candidates should arrange to send a minimum of two letters of recommendation (LOR). The LOR may also be directly submitted to bsbephdadmissions@iiti.ac.in or can be provided in a sealed envelope before appearing for the interview.
• Mere fulfillment of the essential qualifications does not guarantee admission to the Ph.D. program in the Department of BSBE. The selection will be based on the overall performance, which will include interview, academic background, suitability for research in the chosen field/area, research aptitude, communication skills, etc.
• Shortlisted candidates will have to appear for a written test and in- person interview on IIT Indore campus. No online interviews will be conducted.
