The National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS) is an autonomous institution of Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, with mandate of basic research, teaching & training, and to function as a national repository for cell lines/hybridomas etc. The Centre is located in the midst of academically enriched environment of Savitribai Phule Pune University Campus, Pune.
NCCS invites applications for following posts on various extramural projects purely on temporary basis.
Research Associate – I (RA-I)

Name of the Project : Characterization of Pseudogene-like CTs in Ovarian Cancer.
Name of the PI : Dr. Sharmila Bapat
Essential Qualification & Experience : Ph. D/MD/MS/MDS or equivalent degree or having 3 years of research, teaching and design and development experience after MVSc/M.Pharm/ME/M.Tech with at least one research paper in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal.
Desirable Experience : Experience in molecular biology (PCR, Cloning, protein expression, western blotting, Fluorescence In-Situ Hybridisation Immuno-precipitation, cell fractionation) bioinformatics and /or RNA biology (In-vitro transcription /translation, RNA FISH, RNA pull down.)
Project Tenure : Upto 23.01.2026
Total Monthly Emoluments : Rs. 47000 + HRA

Senior Research Fellow (SRF)

Name of the Project : Identifying the role of host F-box proteins, a component of E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, in HIV-1 pathogenesis and their potential use as therapeutic target against the virus.
Name of the PI : Dr. Debashis Mitra
Essential Qualification & Experience : Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science or Graduate / Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course selected through a process described through any one of the following & should have 2 years of research experience.
A. Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and/or GATE.
B. The selection process through National Level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER etc.
Desirable Experience : 2 Years research experience in Mammalian Cell Culture, Molecular Biology and Virology will be necessary for the execution of the project and thus will be preferred.
Project Tenure : Up to 09/06/2027
Total Monthly Emoluments : Rs. 42000 /- + HRA

Senior Project Associate (SPA)

Essential Qualification & Experience : (i) Master’s Degree in Natural or Agricultural Sciences / MVSc or bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognized University or equivalent; and (ii) Four years’ experience in Research and Development in Industrial and Academic Institutions or Science and Technology Organisations and Scientific activities and services. OR Doctoral Degree in Science / Engineering / Technology / Pharma / MD / MS from a recognized University or equivalent.
Desirable Experience : Proven expertise in metagenomic data analysis and genome sequencing, with a demonstrated record of high-impact publications in relevant scientific journals.
Project Tenure : Up to 02/07/2026

General Instructions

4. Essential qualifying Final / Provisional Degree certificate as per the advertisement. (Candidates with only marksheets are not eligible to apply. The Final or Provisional Degree certificate is mandatory.)
5. Copies of NET/GATE/National Level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER, etc and other relevant documents, if applicable.
6. Caste Certificate.
7. Latest/valid non-creamy layer certificate for OBC.
8. Work experience certificates, if applicable. The duration of offer will be determined based on fund availability.
Other important Points
1. The Director (Additional Charge), NCCS reserves the right to enhance/reduce the number of posts and cancel the recruitment process, if required.
2. The prescribed educational qualifications and experience are the bare minimum and mere possession of same does not entitle candidates to be called for Walk in Interviews. The Centre reserves the right to call for Walk in Interviews only those candidates who in its opinion are likely to be suitable.
3. Number of candidates to be called for the interview may be restricted to a reasonable limit after taking into consideration the essential qualifications and desirable experience over and above the minimum prescribed, in the advertisement. Therefore, it will be in the interest of the candidates, to mention all the qualifications and experience in the relevant field at the time of applying. No interim enquiries/correspondence/communication of any sort will be entertained on this matter.
4. The above advertised positions are filled up purely on temporary basis for the limited time on the extramural projects funded by various funding agencies. The position will automatically co-terminus on the completion of the candidate’s tenure. The appointed person shall have no claim of appointment/absorption in funding agency or in NCCS, Pune.
5. Fellowship/Emoluments: Emoluments to the research personnel engaged under project will be made in accordance with the sanction order or latest DST O.M whichever the case may be.
6. Age limit will be considered as on closing date of receipt of application. Age relaxation of 5 years in case of Women/SC/ST/PH candidates and 3 years in case of OBC candidates will be given as per Government of India rules. OBC candidates must produce latest/valid non-creamy layer certificate. Reservation as per Govt, of India norms will be followed.
7. No TA/DA & Accommodation will be admissible for attending the interview.
8. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence .will be treated as disqualification for the post.
9. The posts advertised shall be need based without any commitment for its filling.
10. Selected candidates will have to join duty within one month of the receipt of offer of appointment.
11. Lower positions may be offered, if candidates are not found suitable for the above advertised positions.
