Assam University came into existence through Assam (Central) University Act, 1989 (Act. No. XIII). It was established in 1994, since then the University is steadily becoming an excellent centre of learning. The campus, situated in Dargakona, about 20 kms from Silchar, is set amid sprawling hillocks, a typical landscape in the North East. The campus in an area of 600 acres surrounded by lakes and mountains provides an ideal environment for academic pursuit.
Eligible candidates are invited for walkin interview for the post of one Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position to work in SERB-DST funded project on contractual basis as per details given below:
Name of the Research Project - Identification, characterization and expression profiling of drought stress responsive microRNAs in Coffea arabica L.
Name of the sponsoring agency – Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India
Scheme - Empowerment and Equity Opportunities for Excellence in Science (EMEQ)
Tenure of the project – 04 Years
Tenure of the assignment – 01 Year (One year in the beginning and may be extended up to three more years based on satisfactory performance)
Job Description – To carry out the research work related to the project
Monthly fellowship – As per SERB/DST, GOI norm
Essential qualification – Masters degree in Biotechnology / Life Sciences/ Biosciences / Botany or other relevant discipline with good academic records from a recognized University/ Institute with minimum 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA.

Desirable qualification/experience – Valid NET/GATE/JRF (CSIR/UGC/ICAR/DBT/ICMR) or any other equivalent examination will be preferred. Knowledge of Plant Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics is desirable. Preference will be given to candidates having demonstrated experience in the related research.
Terms and conditions – The services of the selected candidate will be as per SERB, DST guidelines. The project fellowship is a full time position. Selection procedure - Walkin interview of eligible candidates will be conducted on 18th September, 2017 at 2:30 P.M. at Department of Biotechnology, Assam University, Silchar, Assam.
Note - No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview. The eligible candidates should report at the venue of walkin interview with original documents/testimonials for verification. Three copies of Bio-data (duly signed by the candidate) to be submitted at the time of interview. Selected candidates will have to join duty immediately on receipt of the offer.
