Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India invites applications from eligible Indian Nationals for the following positions under the project titled “Exploring the marine ecosystems for novel bioresources with human health and industrial significance.”
Project duration : Upto 31.03.2026 or the completion of the project as per GoI orders and based on annual performance appraisal.
Project Scientist (I/II)
Number of posts : 4
Upper age limit : 40 years
Remuneration* : 56,000 +18% HRA OR 67,000/ +18% HRA per month
Eligibility criteria
Essential qualifications : Doctoral degree in science or Master's Degree in Engineering or Technology from a recognized University or equivalent and 1-3 years (or more) of experience in research and development in industrial and academic institutions or Science and Technology organizations and scientific activities and services.
Desirable qualifications : Candidate should have completed a Ph.D. in any field of life sciences with extensive experience in microbiology/pharmacy / molecular biology / marine biology / Virology / natural products chemistry/drug screening/bioprospecting/experience in working high-throughput NGS technologies/biochemistry/purification and characterization of natural products using LC/MS-MS / UHPLC / HPLC / proteomics / mass- spectrometry / metabolomics, etc. Candidates with experience in the above field and publications in peer-reviewed journals are encouraged to apply. OR System administration, managing HPC operations, installation, configuration, fine-tuning, and troubleshooting Linux HPC servers, building and deploying open source/commercial software, diagnosing and resolving system operational problems quickly and effectively, providing technical support software installation, troubleshooting, data backup/recovery, day to day operations of the bioinformatics facility, network security.
Senior Research Fellow / Senior Project Associate

Upper age limit : 35 years
Remuneration : 42,000/- per month + 18% HRA
Eligibility criteria : Essential qualifications Candidates having M.Sc. / M. Tech / M. Pharm. / M.V.Sc. or equivalent qualification in Life Sciences or allied subjects (Biochemistry / Biotechnology / Virology / Bioinformatics / Computational Biology / Microbiology, etc.) with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks (relaxation will be given as per GOI guideline) with 2 years of experience in research work are eligible to apply. The candidates should have qualified national- level entrance test (NET/GATE/GPAT). OR Candidates having M.Sc. / M. Tech / M. Pharm. / M.V.Sc. or equivalent qualification in Life Sciences or allied subjects (Biochemistry / Biotechnology / Virology / Bioinformatics / Computational Biology / Microbiology, etc.) with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks (relaxation will be given as per GOI guideline) with 4 years of experience in research work are eligible to apply. OR Doctoral Degree in Science / Engineering / Technology Pharma / MD / MS from a recognized University or equivalent
Desirable qualifications : Candidates with more than two years of research experience in applied biology/biotechnology/ drug screening/ bioprospecting/ microbiology/ proteomics/ mass-spectrometry or a related field of life sciences.
Selection will be carried out through application screening, followed by an interview.
N.B. : The list of shortlisted candidates' names and the date of the interview will be published on the ILS website.
All the positions are purely temporary and coterminous with the project.
No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview. The decision of the Director regarding the selection of candidates will be final and no further correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
*In case of candidates not matching the requirements satisfactorily, the Director reserves right to offer a lower salary (i.e. of PS-II to PS-I with remuneration 56,000/- per month +18% HRA) Note: All communication will be through e-mail. No separate call letter will be issued to the candidates.
