The National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), an autonomous organisation aided by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, was established to facilitate cell biology research in the country. NCCS is located within the academically-enriched campus of the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). Since its inception, NCCS has been performing cutting-edge research in cell biology, providing valuable services as a national animal cell repository, and supporting human resource development through various teaching and training programmes.

Desirable Experience : Experience in handling next generation sequencing data including bacterial genome, metagenome and transcriptome analysis.
Project Tenure : Up to 24.03.2024, The sanction as on today is up to 24.03.2023.

Junior Research Fellow
Name of the Project : Proteogenomics-based identification and characterization of a novel ITGB8 isoform in ovarian cancer and elucidation of its functional relevance.

Essential Qualification & Experience : Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science or Graduate / Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course selected through a process described through any one of the following. A. Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and/or GATE. B. The selection process through National Level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER etc.
Desirable Experience : I. Individuals with 2 years of research experience of handling mammalian cells and performing assays in cancer biology / biochemistry / molecular biology. II. PhD candidates who have recently submitted the thesis focusing on cancer biology or genetics or life sciences.

Total Monthly Emoluments : I. Rs. 31,000/- + HRA for those who have above essential qualification. II. Rs. 35,000/- + HRA for those who have above essential qualification and should have 2 years of research experience.

Name of the Project : "A novel function for a conserved bioamine in long-term memory and RNA granule remodeling.”
Additional Project Information : 2 PA-I positions are available for a collaborative Project (A novel function for a conserved bioamine in long term memory and RNA granule remodeling) funded by the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research (CEFIPRA) and the post is co-terminus with the project duration.

Essential Qualification & Experience : Master’s Degree in Natural or Agricultural Sciences / MVSc or bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognized University or equivalent.
Desirable Qualification & Experience : Experience with working with Drosophila and running behavior assays for memory and other types of behaviour, brain dissections, immunostaining and genetics (setting up crosses to make combination of mutants, etc.), imaging (confocal and live calcium imaging). If candidates have experience of programming and doing cloning, it will be further beneficial. Work will involve long hours of recording courtship behaviour, and quantifying videos manually. Due to the time course of experiments including following memory kinetics post training, there will be numerous occasions where the candidates will need to work over the weekends and holidays. Candidates should be prepared for this. The candidates are expected to be driven by their own motivation for science, be fearless in their work, adventurous in spirit and honest and ethical with their behaviour.

Other important Points
1. The Director, NCCS reserves the right to enhance/reduce the number of posts and also cancel the recruitment process. Additional percentage and experience cut-off will be applied during the screening process, if required.
2. The prescribed educational qualifications and experience are the bare minimum and mere possession of same does not entitle candidates to be called for online interview. The Centre reserves the right to call for online interview only those candidates who in its opinion are likely to be suitable.
3. Number of candidates to be called for the interview may be restricted to a reasonable limit after taking into consideration qualifications and desirable experience over and above the minimum prescribed, in the advertisement. Therefore, it will be in the interest of the candidates, to mention all the qualifications and experience in the relevant field at the time of applying. No interim enquiries/correspondence/communication of any sort will be entertained on this matter.
4. The above advertised positions are filled up purely on temporary basis for the limited time period on the extramural projects funded by various funding agencies. The position will automatically co-terminus on the completion of the project tenure. The appointed person shall have no claim of appointment/absorption in funding agency or in NCCS, Pune.
5. Fellowship/Emoluments: Emoluments to the research personnel engaged under project will be made in accordance with the sanction order or latest DST O.M whichever the case may be.
6. Age limit will be considered as on closing date of receipt of application. Age relaxation of 5 years in case of Women/SC/ST/PH candidates and 3 years in case of OBC candidates will be given as per Government of India rules. Reservation as per Govt, of India norms will be followed.
