The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt of India and International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) have jointly set-up a collaborative centre to perform cutting-edge research in the field of bioenergy using genomics, metagenomics, synthetic biology and systems biology approaches. The investigators at the Centre are leading teams of research personnel to fulfill various objectives of the Bioenergy Centre, including cellulolytic degradation of plant biomass, engineering microbes for consolidated bioprocessing, engineering algae for higher lipid and biomass yield, and engineering microbes for advanced biofuel production. The collaborative centre is seeking applications for the tenure track position with following details.

Project title: Isolation and characterization of active Anti-malarial compounds from South Indian Medicinal Plants

Funding agency: Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi

Project duration: Dec 2014 to May 2016

Laboratory: Malaria Research Laboratory, ICGEB, New Delhi

Principal Investigator: Dr. Dinkar Sahal

Job description: The candidate required for the project must have a keen sense of disciplined passion for drug discovery which involves
(a) culture of malaria parasite and quantitative estimation of inhibition of growth by drugs,
(b) vision for activity guided high performance chromatographic purification of active molecules,
(c) spectroscopic characterization of active molecules towards structure determination,
(d) evaluation of the in vivo efficacy of test molecules in mouse model of malaria.
An inquisitive mind that enjoys hard work and who has a habit of maintaining a good record book will be preferred.

Qualifications: The candidate should have M.Sc. or equivalent degree with NET or GATE qualified. The academic background preference is degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry or Biotechnology from a reputed university.
