The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur (formerly Regional Engineering College, Durgapur), was established by an Act of Parliament in 1960 as one of the eight such colleges aimed to function as a pace setter for engineering education in the country and to foster national integration.It is a fully-funded premier Technological Institution of the Government of India and is administered by an autonomous Board of Governors. The Institute is a University which awards B.Tech., M.C.A., M.Sc., M.B.A.,M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees to students after their successful completion of the specified courses. The Institute imparts education in the disciplines of Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering,Information Technology, Biotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Environmental science, Materials Science and Management Studies.
Applications are invited from eligible candidates for Admission to PhD programs, Odd Semester, 2024-25 under the following categories
(a) Regular Research Scholar
• Category-A: Regular Research Scholar with Institute Fellowship
• Category-B: Regular Research Scholar with financial support from different Govt. sponsoring agencies such as DST, UGC, CSIR, DAE, NBHM, DST-INSPIRE etc.
• Category-C: Regular Research Scholar working in Externally Funded Sponsored Projects at NIT Durgapur
• Category-G: Regular Research Scholar Sponsored by Government/ Semi- Government/ other Highly Reputed Organizations/Academic or Research Institutions
• Category-K: Regular Research Scholar without Institute Fellowship (Self-financed)
(b) Professional Research Scholar
Interested candidates seeking admission in this category are requested to apply through proper channel with No Objection Certificate (NOC) from her/his parent employer. Enterprenuer / Businessman / Self-employed candidates need to submit self-declaration in this regard.
• Category-F: Professional Research Scholar from the Institute (Faculty / Staff of NIT Durgapur)

Note : (a) For Category A : Selection process shall be through National level examinations conducted by NIT Durgapur in respect of OM No. F.No.12-212O23-U1, dated 11.09.2023. (b) All the degrees must be from an Institute/University recognized by UGC/AICTE, Govt. of India.
• Here, CGPA is on a 10 point scale. Candidates will have to mention CGPA/Percentage as awarded by their University/Institute in the application form. Conversion from CGPA to percentage or vice versa given by individual Institute will not be considered.
• The eligibility criteria as given above is the minimum requirement only. Good academic career and higher qualification will be preferred. However, satisfying the mere eligibility shall not ensure a call for admission test and/or viva voce.

FELLOWSHIP
Regular Research Scholars admitted under Category- A shall receive fellowship as per the prevailing norms of Ministry of Education (MoE). At present, the monthly fellowship is Rs. 37,000 for the first 2 years and enhanced rate of ₹42,000/- for the remaining 3 years following the PhD regulations of NIT Durgapur. Rs. NIT Durgapur is not liable to pay any fellowship to the scholars admitted in Categories B, C, F, G, H, I and K.

Application Procedure
All announcements related to PhD admission will be made through the Institute website (nitdgp.ac.in). No communication will be made to any individual separately. Candidates are requested to visit the Institute website from time to time as required. The Institute will not be responsible in any manner if a candidate fails to visit /access the website in time.
Selection Procedure
The shortlisting of applications will be made by the respective departments based on the documents submitted (online) and subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria fixed by the respective departments. The list of candidates shortlisted for admission test and / or viva voce will be published on the Institute webstite on the notified date. Candidates are required to check the webpage of the respective Departments/Centres in the Institute website for the syllabus of the admission test.
(i) Selection of Research Scholars under Categories A, B, C, G, I and K: All shortlisted candidates shall appear for the admission test. There may be a further screening after the conduct of the admission test and before viva-voce, depending upon the number of candidates.
(ii) Selection of Professional Research Scholars (Categories F and H): Selection under these categories will be made directly through viva-voce. The admission committee of the respective departments are fully empowered and responsible for selection and their decision is final in the admission process.
The selected candidates will be required to produce all the original documents for verification during their Admission Test/Physical Reporting/Admission to the institute. Selected candidates are also advised to bring the printed application form, one colour passport size photograph and a set of self-attested photocopies of all the required documents during Admission/Physical Reporting.
Additionally, all the selected candidates who will eventually turn out to be suitable for admission, will be required to submit the migration certificate (in orginal) at the time of physical reporting to the institute during the admission.
