The National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis [Formerly Tuberculosis Research Centre (TRC)], a permanent institute under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), is an internationally recognized institution for Tuberculosis (TB) research. It is a Supranational Reference Laboratory and a WHO Collaborating Centre for TB Research and Training. Recently, an International Centre for Excellence in Research (ICER) in collaboration with NIH was established at the Centre. The Centre (formerly known as the Tuberculosis Chemotherapy Centre) was set up in Madras in 1956 as a 5-year project, under the joint auspices of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the Government of Tamil Nadu, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the British Medical Research Council (BMRC). The objective of the Centre was to develop studies designed to provide information on the mass domiciliary application of chemotherapy in the treatment of pulmonary TB.

Place of posting : Chennai
Essential qualification : Master’s degree in Life Science or M-Tech in Biotechnology with one year research experience in the related field.
Desirable qualification : Experience in handling Mtb cultures
Age limit : Not exceeding 40 years.
Emoluments : Consolidated salary Rs.28,000/- + HRA Rs. 6,720/-
Nature of Duties : Scientific research, field visits, data compilation and preparing reports, literature review, paper writing etc.
Duration of contract : one year

Junior Project Research Fellow
Name of the project: “Evaluation of Loop Medicated Isothermal Amplification Assay (LAMP) for rapid detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis from clinical samples” (funded by DBT)
Place of posting : Chennai
Essential qualification : Master’s degree in Basic Science with NET qualification or Graduate in professional course with NET qualification or Postgraduate degree in Life Science in professional course
Desirable qualification : Experience in clinical/bacteriological research
Age limit : Not exceeding 35 years.
Emoluments : Consolidated salary Rs.25,000/- + HRA Rs. 6,000/- 6
Nature of Duties : To carry out LAMP evaluation on clinical samples and decontamination of samples for smear, mycobacterial culture, DNA extraction and perform the LAMP assay for the evaluation work
Duration of contract : Six months

They may submit on spot the filled-in application form affixing a passport size colour photograph along with self attested copies of age proof, educational qualifications (from matriculation onwards), certificates of experience related to nature of job, caste certificate (for OBC candidate, creamy layer/non-creamy layer certificate as per Govt of India guidelines) and a fee of Rs.100/- (drawn in favour of Director, NIRT, Chennai) in the shape of demand draft from any Nationalized Bank.
