The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) is a growing phenomenon. Located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, RGCB began in 1990 amongst humble surroundings as a small charitable society called the Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (C-DEST). In 1991, recognizing its potential, the C-DEST was made a “Grant-in-Aid” institute of the Government of Kerala and renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (RGC-DEST), becoming the first institute in the country to be named after Sri Rajiv Gandhi, the young illustrious and visionary former Prime Minster of India.
Post: Junior Research Fellow
Applications are invited from suitable candidates for one position of Junior Research Fellow in a DBT(IYBA) funded research project entitled "Molecular reprogramming of white adipose tissue to combat metabolic diseases" in the Laboratory of Dr. Sona Rajakumari at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram. Our Research Program mainly focus on transcriptional regulation of brown adipocytes and its physiological role in metabolic diseases
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate must have good academic record with first class Master Degree in Life Sciences, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or any other relevant subjects. The candidates with CSIR/UGC NET, ICMR JRF, etc. qualified are encouraged to apply, however those who are not qualified any one of the national exams are also welcome to apply. The candidates in final year of M.Sc (Result awaited) are also encouraged to apply, however the candidates should be qualified at the time of interview.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Our research involves several cutting edge technologies and it includes mammalian cell culture, proteomics, transcriptomics and metabolic studies in mouse (as model system). Therefore, prior experience with mammalian cell culture and handling mouse colonies would be recommended.
AGE: Below 28 years as on 11th August, 2017
EMOLUMENTS: As per DBT revised norms, the NET/GATE qualified and professional degree candidates will be paid 25,000/- + 20% HRA and Non-NET and Non-GATE M.Sc candidates will be paid 12000 + 20% HRA
DURATION:
2 years or till termination of the project. However, the initial appointment will be given for 1 year and further extension will be based on the performance.
