Assam University came into existence through Assam (Central) University Act, 1989. It was established in 1994, since then the University is steadily becoming an excellent centre of learning. The campus, situated in Dargakona, about 20 kms from  Silchar, is set amid sprawling hillocks, a typical landscape in the  North East. The campus  in an area of  600 acres surrounded by lakes and mountains provides  an ideal environment for academic pursuit.   Drawing its 230 plus faculty from many disciplines, from all over the country, the university sustains a multidisciplinary approach to higher education.

Post: JRF in (Organic chemistry) DBT funded Project for about 20 months

Applications are invited for a JRF post in the Dept. of Chemistry, Assam University, Silchar (Assam) for an ongoing project under DBTs NER TWINNING Programme, in collaboration with NIMHANS, Bangalore, and ICGEB, N. Delhi.

The project is titled: NANOASSISTED C60-PYRIMIDONE DERIVATIVES: THEIR SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION, NEUROPROTECTIVE, AND ANTIVIRAL ACTIVITIES

Essential qualification: M.Sc / M.Tech / M.Pharm (above 55%) in Chemistry / Biochemistry / chemical  engineering / Nanotechnology / Pharmaceuticals. Background in Organic Chemistry is necessary.

Emolument: INR 16,000/- + 10% HRA for the said period, applicable only if JRF is NET/GATE  qualified, otherwise it shall be INR 12,000/- +10% HRA only.

It is a major project which involves interdisciplinary approach. Competent candidates with a strong background of synthetic organic chemistry are requested to mail their applications (along with their CV and self-attested passport sized scanned photograph) to devashish.sengupta@uni.sydney.edu.au. Work experience related to synthetic organic chemistry should me mentioned clearly or highlighted in the application. The applications will be entertained  till the 25th of July, 2014. Short listed candidates will be called for an interview on the 7th of August, 2014. The candidate is entitled to join a PhD course after completing the necessary formalities. However, no TA/DA will be provided for attending the same.

Candidates who are extremely sincere, hardworking and committed to research will be given  priority. The DBT norms will be followed for the selection process. The selected candidate may have to join immediately.
