During its long journey over the last 146 years, Nilratan Sircar Medical College has grown both physically and intellectually. Presently it offers Under Graduate (250 intake annually), Post Graduate (in 19 disciplines) as well as Post Doctoral courses (in 11 disciplines). College also offers M.Sc, B.Sc and Diploma courses in Nursing and as many as ten Para Medical diploma courses. In keeping with norms of the Regulatory Body, the college has as many as eight Lecture Theatres of varying capacities. There is a large Play Ground within the campus. Hostels for UG and PG students, both boys and girls are there as per recommendation of MCI. College also has one large Auditorium in the Academy Building and one State of the Art e-Class Room. Accommodation to External Examiners are provided in a well maintained Guest House within the premises.
Post : Project Research Scientist -1 (Non-Medical)
Applications are invited for the post of one (01) Project Research Scientist - I (Non-Medical) in an Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) -funded research project entitled "Impact of differential expression of X- chromosomal and autosomal genes on cardiometabolic risk in Turner syndrome and role of sirtuin-4 and IRS-2 as novel risk- predictors " (PI: Dr Sunetra Mondal, Co-PI: Prof. Dr Nilanjan Sengupta) at the Department of Endocrinology, NRS Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata. The recruitment is purely contractual. The initial appointment is for a period of six months, likely to be extended (up to 3 years), subject to satisfactory performance and continuation of the project grant.

Job Description : It is expected that this individual will conduct independent scholarly research and will contribute directly to the overall research goals of the project. He / She will be expected to participate in project planning, recording and interpretation/ evaluation of data, and communication of results. He / She will also be expected to acquire technical, lab management, and manuscript/grant writing skills; and participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentations at national meetings. He / She also may be required to supervise junior lab members, develop new methods and protocols for research, and assist with the development of other research projects in the lab.
Essential Qualifications
1. Post Graduate Degree (First Class), including integrated PG degrees in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacy, Biostatistics, or related subjects along with 4 years of research experience.
2. Post Graduate Degree (Second Class), including integrated PG degrees along with PhD in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacy, Biostatistics, or related fields.
3. Four-year graduate degree (First Class) in Biomedical Engineering, or allied subjects along with 4years of research experience in the relevant field.
Desirable Qualifications
1. Adequate experience and ability to perform independently all relevant experiments involved in gene expression analysis including DNA extraction, cDNA and mRNA extraction and PCR for DNA and mRNA.
2. Adequate experience and ability to perform independently ELISA experiments for protein estimation from serum and/or body fluids.
3. Prior experience ,with publications if available, in working with medical genetic disorders specially involving copy number variations or aneuploidies like Turner syndrome
4. Basic knowledge of MS Office and MS Excel.
5. Experience of working in a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment.
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
