Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) is an autonomous Institute of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt, of India. The institute is an integral part of the interdisciplinary NCR Biotech Science Cluster (NCR BSC) located at Faridabad, and is designed with the mission to conduct innovative translational research to translate concepts into products to improve human health. We are in the process of filling up vacancies in the project entitled “Translational Research Program” and other related projects.

THSTI comprises of four major research themes and four core facilities.
a) The four major research themes for the new research and development program are:
i) Infectious diseases and immunology [l&l]
The focus is on drug and vaccine development for infectious diseases. Specific objectives of this area are:
• Discovery and validation of therapeutics for tuberculosis and other infectious diseases
• Late stage vaccine development for diseases of public health interest in India
• Pathogen phylogenetics
• Deep immunophenotyping of humans challenged with vaccines or infectious agents
• Establishment of proof-of-principle for microbiome-based interventions in i) inflammatory bowel disease and ii) pre-term birth
ii) Maternal and child health [MCH]
• Maternal and child health research at THSTI encompasses molecular studies in perinatal biology, maternal nutrition and other aspects relevant to maternal and child health.
• Understand feto-placental development and in utero placental dysfunction and association with pregnancy outcomes
• Long term outcomes in growth-restricted fetuses and preterm babies
• Environmental determinants of pregnancy outcomes
• Develop tools to measure nutrient status
• Biology of nutrition and evaluation of interventions
iii) Multi-disciplinary clinical and translational research [MCTR]
This area is focused on development of diagnostics for infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance and snake-bite and following objectives have been identified:
• Highly sensitive semi-quantitative point-of-care tests (POCT) for blood-borne virus screening and for acute febrile illnesses
• Rapid tests for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing
• New approaches to identification of snake venom/bites
iv) Non-communicable diseases, with a focus on Diabetes and NASH [NCD]
Multidisciplinary approaches to address unmet needs of target discovery and validation, identification of stage-specific biomarkers for diagnosing disease progression using animal models and development and validation of prediction tools. Current focus is on:
• Tool for diabetes prediction based on metabolomic signatures using machine learning algorithms
• In vitro and in vivo models of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), to evaluate new chemical entities (NCEs) and plant-based extracts to identify therapeutic leads
• Stage-specific molecular signature for diagnosis/ prognosis of dyslipidemia, inflammation and fibrosis associated with NAFLD/NASH.
b) The four thematic areas will be supported by four core facilities that will serve not only the research programmes of THSTI, but also cater to the NCR-BSC and other academic and industrial partners.
i) Bioassay Laboratory [BAL]
The bioassay lab was established in 2018 with the goal of ISO accreditation by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories. Candidate viral vaccines are being developed in India and will require clinical trials from Phase I to Phase III. BAL will act as a GCLP facility to support these clinical studies by providing assay platforms for various clinical and immunological assays.
ii) Biorepository Facility [BRF]
The biorepository (Rakshita) is a bio-bank for facilitating national and international collaborations on translational research in maternal and child health. The biorepository is continuously expanding with samples being collected at collaborating hospitals and sent to
THSTI.
iii) Data Management Centre [DMC]
A state-of-the-art data management centre is currently augmenting the data management capability and capacity of investigators working on research projects that require management of enormous amount of data collected through clinical studies, cohort studies and large multicentre studies being led / coordinated by THSTI investigators. The DMC provides support for statistical analysis to groups at THSTI and outside.
iv) Small Animal Facility [SAF]
The Small Animal Facility (SAF) breeds and maintains genetically defined inbred strains of rats and mice and has a specialized animal biosafety containment facility for undertaking animal research for infectious diseases. Future upgradation for development of transgenics and new models is underway.
