The NIOH is the premier institute, under the aegis of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) under the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. The need for research in Occupational Health in the country was first appreciated by Indian Research Fund Association (IRFA), the forerunner of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). IRFA set up an Industrial Health Advisory Committee (IHAC) under the chairmanship of Col. Bozman in 1945.
Post : Project Research Scientist -I (Non-medical)
Applications are invited through E-mail for the following post to be filled up through personal interview (online/offline (virtually through zoom or any other application)) under the time bound research project entitled “Development of Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOP) module for immunotoxicity of per-/ poly- fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) through exploration of the mechanisms behind suppression of vaccine-induced antibody response” at ICMR-National Institute of Occupational Health (NIOH) Ahmedabad. The posts are purely temporary, ad-hoc & on contractual basis and co-terminus with the project.
Essential Qualifications
1. First class Post Graduate degree including integrated PG degree in any of the following subjects: Toxicology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Zoology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biotechnology & related Life science disciplines OR
2. Second class PG degree including integrated PG degree with PhD in the above- mentioned subject specialties OR
3. First Class engineering graduate degree of four years in Biotechnology/ Pharmaceutical Sciences from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualifications
i. Candidates who cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) exams will be preferred.
ii. Candidates having experience with in vivo studies using mouse and rat models, including isolation and culture of immune cell populations will be preferred.
iii. Candidates with hands-on experience and expertise in immunological techniques, especially Flow cytometry, ELISPOT assay, Immunoblotting, Immunohistochemistry, antibody isolation will be given preference.
iv. Expertise in the basic molecular biology techniques, such as nucleic acid isolation, PCR, RT-PCR etc. is desirable.
v. Basic knowledge in Statistics, including experience in data analysis using popular statistical platforms, such as SPSS, R, Graphpad Prism, Origin etc. is also desirable.
Consolidated Salary : Rs. 56,000/- per month + HRA
Age : Upper age limit is 35 years on the date of interview.
Job Requirement/ Description : Immunological work, involving cell culture, animal experimentation, necropsies of the experimental animals, tissue preservation, handling and processing for downstream applications and task as mentioned in the desirable qualification section.
Place of work : ICMR-National Institute of Occupational Health, Ahmedabad.
Tenure : Initially for six month or one year and likely to continue till completion of project

Selection Procedure : The shortlisted candidates will only be called for an Interview. Interview will be conducted through physical or through video conference mode or in hybrid mode. The Interview will be conducted at ICMR-National Insitute of Occupational Health, Ahmedabad with prior intimation to the candidates. Qualification & experience required are as per guidelines: experience shall be counted after acquiring the essential qualification; age limit and experience will be considered as on the date of the interview.
Initially the appointment is for the tenure mentioned in the tables (Six month or One year) for the respective post from the date of assignment of duty and is likely to be extended for 6 months if required subject to performance evaluation by the Project Investigator. The short listed candidates will be intimated though e-mail only on further procedures of recruitment. The selected listed candidate will be required to produce original documents for verification at the time of joining. Submission of incorrect or false information during the process shall disqualify the candidature. Any further information may be downloaded from ICMR-N1OH website, which will be updated from time to time. Date of personal discussion / written test may be changed due to administrative reasons. Hence, candidates are advised to check website before appearing for personal discussion / written test.
The decision of the Director/Director-in-Charge/Competent Authority, ICMR- National Institute of Occupational Health, Ahmedabad will be final in this regard. Canvassing in any form will be considered as a disqualification. The engagement to the project position is purely on time bound contract basis and the Competent Authority reserves the right to dispense with the engagement, at anytime without assigning any reasons. The engagement can be terminated during the tenure at any time by giving one-month notice on either side. Your engagement can be terminated forthwith or before expiry of the notice period, by making payment of a sum equivalent to one-month project position remuneration. However, you will not be permitted to surrender one- month remuneration, in lieu of the period of notice of unexpired portion thereof and you will be required to serve the full period of notice. (Note — The mandate of one- month notice from either side, as stated herein, will not be applicable in case the project is decided to be closed by the competent authority within a period of less than 30 days/one month.)
The engagement will be under the Administrative control of the ICMR-NIOH / Centre of ICMR-NIOH and will be subject to all the rules and regulations of the ICMR-NIOH / Centre of ICMR-NIOH as applicable to fixed term project positions/persons during the tenure/period of engagement. As per project requirement the posting will be at office/field/sitework/travel etc. at the study site; however, may be temporarily posted to other study sites in the interest of project work. There will not be entitlement to any other allowances such as Dearness Allowance, Transport Allowance, LTC, Bonus, etc. Also, incumbent shall not be provided any medicalfacility under CGHS / CS (MA) Rules as admissible to regular employees, and not entitled for any terminal benefits after completion of project period or otherwise. No travelling and/or daily allowance will be admissible either for joining the assignment or on expiry of the contract. However, while travelling in connection with the assigned work during the period of engagement, you will be entitled to draw TA/DA in accordance with your Stipend / Emoluments, but it will not be at par with the regular / permanent employees of ICMR. Age relaxation will be admissible as per GoI and ICMR norms. Age concession to the extent of service rendered in other ICMR research projects will also be admissible for experienced and skilled persons.
Candidates employed in Govt. Service /Semi Govt. /Autonomous Bodies of State/Central Govt. should submit a "No Objection Certificate” front their employer at the time of written test /walk-in Interview.
There will not have any claim on a regular post in ICMR-NIOH / Centre of ICMR-NIOH or in any Dept. of GOI. An undertaking to this effect before joining the project position.
