Ministry of AYUSH proposes to depute an expert under a Collaboration Agreement with WHO, Hqs, Geneva for providing inputs for preparation of strategic agenda and workplan in promoting quality, safety and effectiveness of the traditional and complementary medicine and development of practice documents in Traditional Medicine including Ayurveda, Unani, Panchkarma and training document in Yoga.
Applications are invited in prescribed format from eligible Indian candidates for deputation to WHO, Hqs, Geneva on full time fixed term contract basis initially for a period of two years. The selected incumbent may be deputed immediately during the year 2017-2018.
Post : Indian Traditional Medicine Expert
Education Qualification
Essential : Advanced university degree in traditional medicine or MD and a degree in traditional medicine
Desirable : MPH, or PhD in public health or relevant health-related subject. Familiarity with national standards development including proficiency in computers and familiarity with ICD software platforms.
Experience
Essential : At least 7 years’ experience in traditional medicine services. Solid experience in the areas of quality and safety of service delivery. Proven experience in collaboration with multilateral, bilateral and regional development institutions.
Desirable : Working experience in a senior technical capacity in the area of traditional medicine in a national health system. Expertise in working in different systems of traditional medicine including Ayurveda, Unani and Panchakarma.
Functional Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of the areas related to health systems, service delivery, and traditional and complementary medicine in particular the quality and safety of Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM) services. Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills in English.

Summary of Planned Duties
Under the supervision of the Unit Lead for Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM), the incumbent will:
• Provide substantial input to the Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM) Unit on:
i) the strategic agenda and work plan in promoting quality, safety and effectiveness of traditional and complementary medicine.
ii) the development of the benchmarks for practice documents in traditional medicine including Ayurveda, Unani and Panchakarma and training document i) Yoga; coordinating the studies and relevant projects/activities; preparation of responses to technical enquiries and communications with stakeholders and partners; reviewing the literature and other technical documents in the area of quality, safety and effectiveness in traditional & complementary medicine .
iii) the work on Category 2 activities identified in the Project Collaboration Agreement including coordination of work related to WHO basic terminology on T&CM, WHO global database on regulation and practitioners of T&CM and establishment of a global network of international regulatory cooperation for T&CM practice.
iv) the project of terminology in traditional medicine, including Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy.
v) enlisting traditional systems of medicine, including Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy, in the second module of the International Classification of Diseases- Traditional medicine chapter.
vi) the work of palliative care and T&CM services.
• Prepares information that serves as advice to Member States in quality, safety and effectiveness of traditional and complementary medicine services in line with the implementation of the WHA resolutions and WHO strategy on traditional medicine.
• Prepare appropriate reporting to the supervisor on the above mentioned area of work.
• Undertake any other duties as required within the field of competence, and as requested by the supervisors.

Eligible candidates will be called for interview. Second Class AC fare will be reimbursed.
This Ministry’s advertisement inviting Applications from eligible Indian Nationals for deputation to WHO Hqs, Geneva on full time fixed term contract basis initially for a period of two years is amended to the extent that upper age limit of the candidate should not be more than 55 years as on 31st March, 2017. While applying, this may be kept in mind.
