GSK looking for Associate Scientist

GSK is a global biopharma company with a special purpose – to unite science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease together – so we can positively impact the health of billions of people and deliver stronger, more sustainable shareholder returns – as an organisation where people can thrive. Getting ahead means preventing disease as well as treating it, and we aim to impact the health of 2.5 billion people around the world in the next 10 years.

Post : Associate Scientist – Polysaccharide Chemistry and Protein Biochemistry

Job Description
We’re combining the power of genetic and genomic insights into what causes disease, with the speed and scale of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) to make better predictions about who a treatment might work for, and why. We believe this powerful combination of data and technology holds the key to fundamentally transforming medical discovery for the better, improving R&D success rates and shaping how even the most challenging diseases, like neurological conditions and cancer, can be both prevented and treated.  We are currently seeking a highly motivated associate scientist with some basic hands-on experience in organic synthesis, chemical conjugation of proteins and/or polysaccharides, protein purification, and analytical characterization techniques to join our protein science team. Our protein science team is responsible for generating high quality protein and polysaccharide antigens from different bacterial pathogens to support our vaccine development programs. You will work closely with the members from immunology and molecular biology groups in a highly collaborative environment.

Develop and optimize protocols for chemical modifications of proteins and polysaccharides and purify them using various chromatographic methods (Affinity, IEX, HIC).
Characterize purity and homogeneity of the purified protein-polysaccharide complexes using various analytical and biophysical tools e.g. analytical SEC, SEC-MALS, DLS, DSF etc.
Independently troubleshoot challenges and come up with novel solutions.

Candidate Profile
Basic Qualifications :
• BS degree in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology or process science with 1+ years of work experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
• 6 months+ experience with chemical modifications of recombinant proteins and chromatographic purification techniques is needed.
• 6 months+ experience in analytical and bio-physical protein characterization techniques like: SEC-MALS, DSF, DLS etc. will be plus.
Preferred Qualifications :
• MS degree in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology or process science with 1+ years of work experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
• Strong ability to multi-task and willingness to work effectively in a highly collaborative and diverse environment as a team player with a strong work ethic.
• Hands on experience with chemical modifications of recombinant proteins and polysaccharides and chromatographic purification techniques is needed.
• Able to maintain written records in the form of laboratory notebooks.
